Right can someone please explain why on earth our last two managers have been obsessed with playing overly complicated systems which rarely seem to fit the players we had/have available. Eh was pleased when Jackie got sacked, thinking to myself that's finally the end of this shitey 4231, a formation that unless played by top teams seems to bring about total confusion in defenders.
Thought when Mixu arrived he'd bring in a couple players and we'd get back to a 442, the formation which brought us back to back European places and the Scottish cup, but naw instead we've opted to play some overly ornate and defensive 352 which doesn't seem to fit the players we have whatsoever. Playing with 2 fucking wing backs when we don't even have 2 wing backs signed. Honestly canna understand what the fuck is going on with the team selections recently,we're 10 points + clear at the bottom of the table yet last night we had a formation that included 7 defensive players. Mind boggling stuff why we haven't returned to the most basic aspect of football.
Why we have had managers that have insisted with tactics that have brought about inconsistent results (being kind ) is doing my heid in. Jackie decided to go gung ho and no bother defending and Mixu came in with us rooted bottom and has opted to go totally in the other direction. Like bringing a knife to a gun fight trying to score 1 and hold on with the players we have at the back. We couldn't defend a sandcastle from a group of bairns at a beach so what we're doing trying to play for 1-0 every other week is staggering. I'd say sort it Mixu before its too late but it already is, at least change things up and gie wi something ti cheer before the inevitable drop.

Great post. Totally agree. So called 'experts' say 4-4-2 doesn't work against teams that play 3 midfielders. Wee Jim used to say that 4-4-2 should win against 3 midfielders because all you do is bring your wide men in 10 yards narrower and make it 4 v 3 in the middle of the park. If he says it, then thats good enough for me. I'll take his word over fucking Jackie and Mixu thats for sure.

One of the very basics of footballing tactics, narrow when they've got the ball, wide when we've got it.
Football really is a simple game, ruined by idiots.

Why not go 235 for nostalgia's sake, like me?
Vast majority of teams in Europe are presently playing 4231, and it did work for us with the right players, but we don't have the right players for it right now.

If you are shite, you need a gimmick.
It why a lot of low performance cars have high spec electronics packages.
I believe the correct term is 'fur coat and no knickers'.
Can't go wrong with a good goalie, solid back four that you don't rotate, and a solid DMF in front of them. Whether it's a 4-2 or a 3-3 in front of them depends on the players, but I agree, it's how the football should be played in this country.
Love a strike force pairing!

That's just it Bugsy, you play the best formation to suit the players you have and to get the best from your best players.
We haven't done that since Gauld, Robertson, Armstrong, GMS all left

Morphy......that description of our defence and the sandcastle has made me smile for the first time in 24 hours. I will shamelessly use that anology as it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Glad ti see a few people agree with is and it's no just me wanting to smash my head aff the wall every Saturday seeing the lineup.
Lifesanocean and TheShed yous hae the nail on the head, over complication of a simple game and we've been kings of it for the past year and a half. Eh agree with you partly as well bugsy, it was fab playing 4231 at home, unfortunately Jackie couldna see past it when we travelled which if he did we could've been challenging Celtic along with Aberdeen instead of having one of the worst away records in the league.
Glad it made you laugh Foo Kin mate, hink abady could do with ane after watching that utter shite last night haha.
In case anyone has erased their memories of last night:
Kawa
Donaldson Gunning Dillon
Spittal Demel Paton Rankin Dixon
McKay Murray
Eh looked at that and said to myself for fuck sake how are we getting out our own half here and eh wasna wrong. We were fucking awful from start to finish , how we didn't go with something like (just my opinion mind)
Kawa
Knoyle Donaldson Gunning Dixon
Spittal Demel Paton Riski
Ofere Mckay
Put Riski in cause we don't really have another winger and he must have something to prove, likewise why sign the boy Knoyle if he's no going to get a game ffs. Canna be any worse than Dillon at RB so why not throw him in. Get the ball wide and give Mckay some service for a fucking change , likewise the boy ofere is a big unit. He'll win something in the air.
No a footballing genius sat here but fuck sake why are we insistent on avoiding simple tactics like this. If it's good enough for Levein/Houston era , it's good enough now.

The problem is every manager now thinks they are all pep guardiolas and they are not it wasn't rocket science to get us out of trouble get a good solid goalie in asap ( 10 days ) get a few good British pros in not foreign wage theives play 442

Great post, I'm sick of watching these ridiculous defensive formations.
Our Centre Halfs are absurd shite so what do we do? Play 3 of them at a time ffs, half the time they get dragged out to full back position. It's absolute torture. See on Wednesday when he decided to rest Dow ( he actually told him to take a rest for Saturday's game) what was going through his head when he decided to put a left back in, instead?
Only a matter of time before Mixu starts getting shit from the stands IMO, has been a disastrous appointment, on a 3 year deal too. Another complete fuck up.

I didn't think the tactics could be worse than McNamara's plan A without deviation.
How wrong I was.

You'll be glad to hear that we're starting with 6 defenders tomorrow instead of 7. SCENES
