He wasn't injured that much, just a chancer. Could of been a good player for us, but he couldnt be arsed.

He was never injured at St.Johnstone mate.

No, but what I said still stands, and it's not an opinion that was formed without good reason, not just fan gossip.   Not that it matters one bit now right enough, apart from it still seems injured players get away with extending their time out at Tannadice when they should be back sooner, that bits just an opinion.

Can't argue with that, if only we could attract crowds like that now.  All seated stadiums have ruined it.

There was no need for all seater stadiums. Completely ott after Hillsborough

Re: On This Day

All seater stadiums was never part of legislation intended for Scotland. The Taylor Report applied to England and Wales.

However, the spl, in their wisdom, brought in the stipulation that 10,000 seats were required for their league. Maybe to limit access for some clubs unfit, in their minds, to play against the Glasgow twins.

Totally agree. All its achieved is pushing prices up as clubs had to pay for it somehow.  22000 crowds at Tannadice a thing of the past because of that.

Re: On This Day

All seated stadiums and SKY have been the worst things that could have happened to football in Scotland.  Makes me despair that folk would rather sit in the house or pub and watch fucking Chelsea than go to a game now.

Ah the kiddy-on supporters. Dinna get me started on them. Theyre standing there glued to the box, everyone oe them giving you their pub expertise on the Man U.  gehm. Never been to Manchester in their life.

You ken who they are when you walk into the boozer. Theyre the boys that stand in a huddle, and the only anes no to speak to you, or ask you aboot the gehm, because they know it all. Some oe them must wonder where we've all been when we come in walk up to the bar, wearing your top or your scarf. Other anes clam-up, half showin their phuckin embarassment. The seagulls in the phuckin backies have been to Tannadice and Dens more than them.

Re: On This Day

DUFC have played 15 times on today's date. And it's not been historically a good date for the club. We've lost 7 of those games and there's been a few tankings in there....6-2 v Celtic (2013),3-0 v Aberdeen (2003),4-0 v Aberdeen (2002),and if you go all the way back to 1957 even a humiliating 0-7 loss at Tannadice to Raith Rovers.

We have played tonight's opponents Motherwell just once on today's date....and it was way back 39 years ago on Wednesday 16th February 1977 (7.30 k.o.).

That was the only game my mum took me to, i was 14 and it was after my parents divorce so I think she was being nice by taking me. She was worried about traffic so left early and when we got back in the car I put the radio commentary on just as Motherwell scored, few expletives came out my mouth and my pus was skelpt! And that was the end of that for my mum

But I always remember Sieb's delayed comedy fall at the Brewster goal at the 1:10 mark. I hated him that day and he was getting dogs abuse from the fans. Little did I know in a couple of years time he would be my cult favourite!

Re: On This Day

Mind both those games well, the Alloa game was the day of my 21st birthday party.

Got through early and hit a few pubs, great laugh with the old locals in some right holes, headed to the game and there were massive queues to get in the away end so smart arse here decides to take a run and jump at the wall to climb over.  The wall was covered in tar or something at the top to stop cunts climbing in and I was covered in black sticky stuff for the rest of the day.

Left at half time to go back to the boozer and got a carry out for bus home, was in some state when I rolled up at Tannadice for my 21st.

Few things I think watching that

1 Stevie Kirk is a cunt, always was , always will be
2 It's still a foul on Guido at their equaliser
3 Brewster had some strike in him
4 seeing the East stand being built at that time reminds me why it should never have been named after the man it is.
5 if only Scottish football had ignored the Taylor report, they could have, crowds like that are now a thing of the past, great atmospheres back then.
6 22 years ago! Fuck I'm getting old
7 did I mention Stevie Kirk is a cunt

Re: On This Day

two fantastic goals from Brewster, Welsh's goal in the replay wasn't bad either.

My main memory of that game is that I was whistling for full time just before Motherwell got the corner for their equaliser. After that I never ever whistled for full time again

Re: On This Day

I got absolutely pished at that Alloa game. Drinking in some wee shitehole boozer with the locals and then bought a half bottle of Buckie out of some wee shop and necked it on the walk to the ground... Jesus!!  (West Coast mink etc etc).

Pretty quickly sobered up as I stood on their wee grassy hill and seen Utd 2-0 doon after half an hour (going on 4 or 5).

My other memory from Alloa was the toilet was a portakabin and the floors were pished on on quite a massive scale I won't lie to you. Unfortunately it was only upon exiting the 'facilities' that I noticed my shoe lace was loose *boak*.

Got another half bottle to commiserate/celebrate for the journey home.

Cannae whack a Scottish Cup away day.

Re: On This Day

Alloa's a strange place: had a pal who worked as a police photographer, and he had to photograph a perpetrator, the scene and the victim on one occasion in Alloa, all reported by his concerned neighbours.

The bloke charged was in his seventies, and harmless looking, though guilt soaked soul.  The location was his garden shed, and the victim his wee Scotty dog which he'd been shagging every morning around 10am.

That United line up at Alloa, Jenkins and Patterson apart, was pretty decent too. Martin Cameron who scored for Alloa was sought after by a few clubs, and went to Bristol Rovers for a big fee at the end of the season. Davie Beaton's goal was a good free kick from about 30 yards, I think.

See the Motherwell game was from a time when they announced the home town of the referee too. McCluskey lived about 20 miles from Motherwell and 100 from Dundee. That's all I'm saying for now.

Re: On This Day

That Motherwell game was gutting when they equalised in the last minute, thought we were out - they were flying high at the top end of the table, challenging Rangers (rip) for the league whilst we had struggled for any form all season.

Then mind going down to the replay on the bus and they announced the teams - Narey was back in the team and my mate was saying, fuck sakes Davie is past it etc etc. What happens?  Sash strolls about the park marshalling the defence and we go through thanks to Welshie.  Great times.

19/2/2016 10:21 am  #96

Re: On This Day

Did Sash not play centre mid in the replay Slateford?  Maybe I'm getting mixed up but I remember him playing as a holding midfielder that night.

That replay was one of the best days I've had watching United, my Dad said I wasn't allowed to go (I had just turned 15 and had been caught plunking school) but I thought fuck it, I was in trouble anyway so on the afternoon of the game I phoned him in his local to say I was going away on the bus and would be home late then hung up as he started shouting at me.

I think that night was the first time I was on the SAS bus, if I mind right I was phoning around everywhere last minute and couldn't get a seat but becuase I and was on my own they told me to come down anyway and just get on seat or no seat, great boys.

The winner was scored by a certain Raymond Mckinnon as newly promoted Utd defeated Martin O'Neill's English Premiership side. Jamie McQuilken scored the opener. Muzzy Isset scored the Foxes consolation.

Anyone at this one?

I was.  Armand Benneker played for us as a trialist if I remember rightly.  He looked like the boy who was Hans Gruber's henchman in Die Hard.  I remember Neil Lennon putting in a bad challenge on Dave Bowman who then proceeded to chase Lennon around the pitch for the next 5 minutes before melting him with an eye-watering tackle.  Sure Lennon was then subbied for his own good.  Prick.

Too much commotion

Motherwell 1 (Ian Ross 60)
Dundee United 3 (Olofsson 56,McKinnon 57,Winters 89)

I was at this game and remember it like it was yesterday. One of the best away performances and days i have had following Utd.

It was Kjell Olofsson's first goal for the club, and of course Ray McKinnon scored a wonder goal that lives long in the memory.

A vintage Utd performance.
