Question: Can we play better?

Had this discussion at work today. Everyone is saying that we have not 'clicked' yet and we can pass the ball much better than we have seen so far this season and that when we do someone is going to get a right tanking.

I am wondering if this is the case though. Is what we are seeing at the moment the best we are going to see from us this season?? Tbf we are scoring plenty but we seem to be playing percentages football a lot more. Are we still capable of the free flowing stuff that had us all creaming ourselves last season or did that style go along with Gauld, Robertson and Souttar???

I don't want to sound like a Spurs fan who would rather play good football and win nothing than play poorer football but win trophies, but are we entitled to ask for a bit more than the wee flashes of good football along with the steely wins we are getting just now???

Re: Question: Can we play better?

I think we can play better, yes.

GMS,Ciftci,Rankin,Dow,Armstrong. All have only really shown flashes of the form we know they can.

Bilate,Spittal have only shown flashes also and you would hope there's much more to come.

I don't think we will get a spell like last season when we were murdering teams every week though until we strengthen the side. Some people underestimate what Robertson brought to the table, and maybe even Gauld tbh.Heard one guy on mad last season refer to Gauldie as a 'tin-opener' and i knew exactly whit he meant. We don't really have anyone else in the team who can conjur something magical out of thin air and open-up a stubborn organised defence.

Re: Question: Can we play better?

I think we can, but its difficult to see where it will come from.

I spat my dummy oot when Gauld was sold, specifically about the point mentioned above, who else has that killer pass, that weighted through ball, the direct run through the middle that parts the defence?

Everyone acknowledged what a huge loss Andy would be but I think a lot of people classed Gauld as a luxury, someone we couldn't easily replace but could afford to lose, I thought the opposite.

In the games I've seen this season I think we've been very predictable at times, get Watson down the wing and cross it in, then repeat, we don't seem to have that edge of the seat performance in us yet.

As others have said, we're not firing on all cylinders yet but we're still top of the league and in the cups so there can be no complaint but yeah, based on last year and having 9 of 11 of the same team still around I think we can play better.

Re: Question: Can we play better?

think we can but there's not much left in the tank because of the bits of magic thats left...BUT we've added other parts to our game...at times last season we had to score 2 or 3 to win..this season we dinna..huge difference big fojut and morris have made...even rado is now coming out and being more confident

Re: Question: Can we play better?

Yeah have to reluctantly agree. We need to step up a gear. If we don't, my fear is we're gonna find out the hard way. Thing is, it's a good squad we've got, so we have the ability, but given that Guy Fawkes night approaches, the team could do with a bit of a rocket up their @rse.

Re: Question: Can we play better?

We can play better IMO. Grinding out wins while not playing that well Is a great sign. The title talk stuff Is silly, we'll finish 2nd or 3rd with Aberdeen.

Re: Question: Can we play better?

I think we can, as most seem to think even outwith us United fans. Really feel like there is another gear there. Last season we seen what happens when we do, but being a young squad and also the inconsistances from them and others means its not going to happen game after game. Hopefully we will get a good few games where it does click. So far it has been most playing not bad with the odd one or two stepping up each game.

Re: Question: Can we play better?

I think we can. Don't think we'll hit the heights of last season when we were tubbing folks by 4 but we'll grind out results whereas were couldn't last season.

I think we'll be top 3 this season.

Pretty much how I see it aswell.   We're not set up quite the same as last year, not got the same flair from full back positions, but more solid in the whole.  More reliant on the front 4 to create, but also more dangerous from set pieces.  Not quite so good to watch, but more capable of grinding out results.

Next few games could dictate the season, keep up the good form then 2nd should be ours, have a bad spell now and it's a fight to stay top 4.

Re: Question: Can we play better?

Bump. Still not seen evidence that we can play better yet. Seeing plenty of evidence that we can play a whole lot worse though.

Re: Question: Can we play better?

Since the Aberdeen game the confidence seems to be dwindling away week after week, theres no doubt in my mind that we can play a lot better and are just waiting to 'click'. Think we have a very good squad and we just need to have faith in the players and the system, we all saw how well it could work last season. The fans need to get behind the team more than ever. Overhauling the tactics/personnel isn't gonna give the team more confidence, only a run of good performances can do that.
