On the back of the news Connolly+ (probably) Telfer have been told they have no future at Utd,i am starting to wonder are we actually failing these young guys?
All i hear recently is our young players Connolly,Telfer,Fraser,Souttar and Spittal constantly being slated by factions of our support despite all of them at times having shown more than enough promise to indicate they are good players.
Souttar looked exceptional when he broke into the first team (and at Centre Half too). Now he is often a target for criticism and his displays are often indifferent.
Fraser has shown good flashes in matches but has also looked like he struggles with the more physical aspect of the game.He has only however played in the first team for 5 months.
A year ago Connolly was on fire and for a run of games looked our most exciting layer everytime i seen him.
Telfer too was looking very comfortable in midfield and really starting to show his class. This clip below v Motherwell he was on fire (25th January 2015,almost a year to the day)
My point is surely all these boys can't be bad players?Have we failed them ?Has poor management and coaching stalled their developement or even sent them backwards?

Connolly will be no loss but the rest are definitely talented but need to up their games......to be fair our predicament will not have helped them though.
Letting Telfer go IMO is a monumental mistake not even taking the fee into account just his good performances .

I think there is a general problem in Scotland that goes way beyond just us.
Top flight is too tight for one thing with managers more worried about saving their jobs than bringing through young talent.
Think the players themselves need to step up too - how many young Scottish players look and act like athletes.
Playing in shit conditions on shit pitches doesn't help either.

I'm saddened for our current crop of youths at the moment. It's around this time of season that we'd be giving kids from the 20s a game for the last 15 minutes or so. You know, top 6 looking a certainty, game drawing to a close with United in control to take all 3 points, let's give a lad his debut. The Scottish Cup has always been a good platform for kids to appear too, I remember Johnny Russell aged around 18 making his debut one January against East Stirlingshire and getting his first goal. Can't see us giving out debuts to any academy kids in the Cup this season.
I feel for the likes of Harry, Johnson and Coote. Under normal circumstances, they'd be getting bits of 1st team game time by now.
As for Telfer, Spittal, Spark, Connolly, Fraser, the ideal scenario for them would've been playing in a team that's doing well where they can develop with seasoned pros around them to marshal and protect as they learn, not weekly dogfights where they're under enormous pressure.

I think we made two unfathomable mistakes in this regard.
Not hiring McCall, good history of working with young sides.
The obvious one regarding boys coming through, allowing Stevie Campbell to leave our club.
Not sure how dramatic an impact each mistake has had. But begs the question at least. Good op TEK.

I don't see the point in continuing with telfer tbh.
Yeah we fucked up by paying 200k for him - he must be on good money - so do we continue to pay him good money to not be good enough or do we cut or losses and start again. The money will never be recouped.
I can think of only once where I've been glad he was on the pitch - so much promise and he hasn't followed through.
Harsh but life is tough.
Are we failing the kids? Nope. You have to earn a career as a footballer - if they have it but aren't dedicating themselves, there's no point in them being here... attitude is all down to them and let's face it - if they were good enough, they'd be in the team

Yes the coaching/management of the last couple of years has clearly failed them, been saying it for months. Souttar was heading to be a star, on his day he's the best player at the club, but he's went so far backwards because of useless management it's scary.
