Thoughts on the recent new signings?

Early doors but what's your thoughts on the 3 recent additions Gents?

Demel - Looks solid and has surprisingly good feet for such a big guy.Perhaps question marks over his temperament though?

Kawashima - Has been 'ok',but nothing more.Cost us one v Dundee and never covered himself in glory for Celtic's 2nd last night.Looks dodgy at corners. So far he hasn't looked worth the wait sadly.

Riski - I know he's just arrived and therefore won't be match fit but i thought that was a very poor full debut indeed last night. As bad as i've seen actually.

Not sure about that Kawashima.Obviously has loads of experience and has played for big clubs and World Cups but....

Thought he looked dodgy at corners.

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

Kawashima is a dud chucked a goal in each of his league games and I'm sure more to follow,

Gunning the crown prince of tannadice used to be an idiot not a pantomime figure ,

Pongolle wage thief first chance to feign injury he took it I'd be amazed if he ever plays forus again ,

Riski light weight unfit not what we need we don't have time to get him match fit ,

Demel keep getting told he is finished at the top level . He is finished at any level his fitness hovers btwn, amateur and junior levels . It was inexcusable getting sent off against Dundee we needed everyone on the pitch pulling together he got the foul the guy gets booked job done Dundee player has to watch his step but oh no not for our guts demel he had to have afters a fucking idiot .

Give mixu not another penny to spend 5 players in 5 duds keep hearing when he gets his own players in it will be different no it won't we will just end up with more duds , let's press the nuclear button sack hi, now and his assistant , get McCall in get the players motivated and give it a right good go . Looks like we will be in for a windfall from Andy Robertson transfer use that to fund a last desperate bid to stay in the league

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

Kawashimas made a couple of howlers but a massive improvement on what we had.

Demel has a good touch is strong on the ball, but is horrendously unfit and possibly nuts.

Riski I'm not gonna judge on last night, luckily for him.

Pongolle can play, may be a wage thief as suggested but will wait and see

Gunning was a real risk and has proved to be the same fuckwit he always was, would never play him again.

Generally agree with this, but the two 'howlers' you mention by the new keeper were aided by the stupidity of our defenders.

Agree with this too, don't think the keeper had a howler though.

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

Pognolle's track record at other clubs suggests an occupied treatment table for some time to come.

Which is not me having a pop at him but he was high risk and given his lack of fitness plus his track record of injury makes him a puzzling signing.

Obviously hope he gets fit and helps us out of the shite we're in but have a bad feeling on this one.

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

Unfortunately our predicament requires new signings to be a big improvement on what we have and for them to hit the ground running. We do not have the luxury of wait and see, give them time, etc.

1) Was Kawashima worth all the hassle and wait? So far he looks like an average keeper.

2) Pongole showed some promise in his brief bit game appearances. If he is out much longer then he will have been a waste. We cannot afford him to be out through injury.

3) Demel. Looks good for an hour. That's not good enough for us right now. Also his temperament is a liability.

4) Gunning. I had always given Mixu the benefit of the doubt and supported him until Gav resigned for us. Even then I decided to wait and see how things would turn out. I am now starting to have serious doubts about Mixu. No matter who we sign or use in our defence, it remains about the most suspect in the league.

5) Riski. I am being unfair, but we do not have the time to apply fairness. When I saw his stature my heart sunk. I am not sure he will offer us anything that we don't have already. We badly need to increase our average height across the team. It's all very well wanting to play football on the deck, but a lot of what dominates or decides a game is what takes place in the air. In comparison to every other team in the league we are generally poor in this area and all because we are the smallest team by average height in the league.

6) Mixu. I want this guy to succeed with us and I want it badly. He inherited an unbelievable pool of sub-standard players, but his above five signings have so far done nothing worthwhile for our cause.

Your key words "so far" hit the spot.  I suppose with the exception of Gunning, they've barely had time to lace their boots, really. Did you expect them to turn things round right away?

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

Good post RAM and you've made a couple of salient points.

Firstly about the need for the new signings to 'hit the ground running'. This thread may seem unfair or harsh because all these players have barely played for us (or anybody for that matter) for some time.

But with the expense of bringing all these foreign lads here (and the hassle involved in Kawashima) and with games and points running out fast... yes we unfortunately need these lads to make an impact immediately!

This of course puts added pressure on them but unfortunately it is what it is. There does come a point though that if these players ain't contributing in a positive way where we need to ask if now is the time to start planning for the Championship. To me that means blooding the likes of Ali Coote, Harry Souttar,Justin Johnson etc in games so they are in some way prepared for life in the rough'n'tumble of the second tier. These are after all some of the players we will have to rely on long after the likes of Gunning and Kawashima have departed.

Secondly the comment about height. We need the ball up the other end of the pitch and it would be useful if we had even one player in midfield (where most of the game is played) who can win an aerial battle. We are still totally our fought in the majority of games due to our lack of physicality.

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

The time for planning for the championship is without doubt here, my thoughts are that we should now be focussing  on the likes of Coote, Souttar jnr etc along with the Spittals etc who are still under contract for next year. The results can't exactly get worse.

No player out of contract should be offered anything, except Souttar, who won't sign anyway, but it'll ensure we get some cash for him.

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

Yip its all over now 14 points plus -10 goal difference, we need to start next seasons rebuild now to give us the best possible chance of coming back up in one go.
There will be an unprecedented exodus of players in the summer and replacing them with good talent will be difficult, even more difficult is getting them gelled to hit the ground running for the start of the season.

Let's get boys signed up early and start putting some positivity into the club, sending out our intent early will also get the fans back and undoubtedly help season ticket sales which will be crucial for the clubs efforts next season.

Please read the first line of my post again. It is not what I am expecting, it is all about what is needful for the predicament we are in.

Then it's just as well you weren't expecting it. You'd have been mighty disappointed!

Expecting it or not, it is still very disappointing, knowing what we need for the battle ahead!

In our position we don't have time to wait for players to get up to speed of match fit.

Mixu should only sign players who he thinks will have an immediate impact so yes I do expect signings to have an impact and so far none have.

Re: Thoughts on the recent new signings?

All a waste of money -the writing has been on the wall since last January /February when we did our version of the shops black Friday.

And went hunting in the discounted bargain buckets for replacements of other teams Black fridays.

Now we are like the boy who's chasing his money back at the casino.

Oh, what came of the things we once believed?

This is my biggest gripe. Signings boys who are not ready to hit the ground running and expect them to bail us out.

If we wanted to do a Ross county, we should have done a Ross county. Sign journeyman British pros. Go to league 1, known spl quantities, top level championship.
Boys that are fit for purpose.
Like his formations, Mixu seems to over complicate his transfer dealings.

Waiting that long for a keeper that turns out to be ok is crazy.
Jamie Langfield could have done what he does in all seriousness.
