Re: Ashes to Ashes

One of the best duets in music, in my opinion.

Sad news indeed, my two girls love the movie Labyrinth, they watch it all the time

Re: Ashes to Ashes

As shocked and gutted as the next music fan.

Just as i was starting to wake upto music my auld boy gave me a bunch of his old vinyl's and said 'listen to these guys'.There was various Beatles albums,Neil Young,Stevie Wonder etc but the one that i always remember stuck out a mile was this...it seemed 'different' and so so interesting.

Was mildly obsessed with the Album for a long long time.Fucking sublime.

Re: Ashes to Ashes

Couldn't let this go, the most 80's and the most camp video ever. Amazing that these two men have probably had more women than anybody else in the world! Well played sir's.

Re: Ashes to Ashes

Genuinely gutted about this, a total legend.  I went through a period in my mid twenties when all I listened to was Bowie when I was discovering his back catalogue.  Can't pick a favourite song, too many to pick so I'll just post this absolute classic:

Re: Ashes to Ashes

It's a reminder that we are all mortal. Bowie's always been one of my favourite artists, even the heavily Anthony Newley inspired Laughing Gnome is a great song.

So many great number to choose from, here's an album track:

Re: Ashes to Ashes

When out on the road between jobs today, I worked my way through the 40 odd tracks of Bowie I had on my Ipod. So many memories associated to songs.  As a little young Twat in the early 70s, my bewilderment of this guy with make up and the fact that girls loved him as well as this other guy Marc Bolan until his demise involving a mini and a hump backed bridge!

Then aged 15 in 1980 in the post punk years being blown away by Scary Monsters and a few years later going to Smokey's aged 18 when Let's Dance had just been released.  Whenever I hear that track I think of those days.

But then at the end of the 80s decade, Bowie lost the plot with the awful Tin Machine.  In 1995 I thought I hit the jackpot when Morrissey was going to support Bowie, but the former spat the dummy about something and did not appear on stage and Bowie chose to perform without doing any of his classics, so that was a damp squweeb!!! I could have chosen one of his best known tracks, but from the album of that time, I'm choosing the best song from the album "Outside" and probably the last best thing I heard from the Duke.....this song has everything in it

Re: Ashes to Ashes

What happened with Morrissey and Bowie was that Bowie wanted Morrissey to end with I know it's gonna happen someday, which Bowie had covered. Therefore not giving Morrissey the reception he deserved. Morrissey sacked it. Quite rightly

Anyway my fav Bowie track is Station to Station

Yeah yeah Industrial Estate

Re: Ashes to Ashes

The album that Morrissey track is on, Your Arsenal was produced by Bowie's right hand man from the 70s Mick Ronson, just before he too died of cancer

Re: Ashes to Ashes

Also should be noted that Bowie got offered a CBE and a Knighthood and told them to ram it.
