Creed

Latest instalment in the Rocky franchise is 'Creed' a spin-off film about Apollo Creed's Son who Rocky end's up training.

Looks pretty dissapointing tbh.As a huge Rocky fan i'll probably still watch it though.

Professional Liverpudlian Boxer Tony Bellew plays the 'baddie' opponent.

Re: Creed

If you keep your expectations low I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

It was made for a very modest $35 million in respects of movies today, considering Robert Downey Jnr was paid $40 million for the last Avengers movie.

It made its money back and then some on its first weekend release and kept strong, and so far has grossed $102 million before even the international release.

Reviews have been surprisingly good as well. Not saying it's the next Rocky III or even IV, it's not even Rocky's story to tell, he is just a supporting character. Everyone loves an underdog.

Re: Creed

Finally got round to watching it.It was much better than it looked in the trailer tbf.

The lead actor gave a good performance but though the fights were more realistic than previous Rocky films i found them to be what i thought they would be 'dissapointing'.A shame because the rest of the film was more than decent and certainly better than the Rocky Balboa movie (though there were some similarities).

I think the problem with the modern Rocky's is that 'baddies' leave me feeling cold. When he fought Creed,Mr T and Drago they seemed such invisible opponents that you were really rooting for Rocky and got caught up in the tension and drama of the fights.

That said i felt a wee tinge of sadness at the end knowing that this will almost certainly be the end of the Rocky franchise. It's been a huge part of my life and i say that without any hint of sarcasm.

Re: Creed

Just watched it tonight with Mrs Sieb. Both big Rocky fans before we met, and we both loved this one too.

The trailer doesn't do it justice in my opinion. At all.

Film experts always talk about how great the "one take" shot is in Goodfellas when Ray Liotta is walking into the Copacabana, but fuck me that first proper fight Creed had was one take, from walking through the curtains on the way to the ring right up until the end of the fight, incredible how they managed to pull that off.

Also how great was Stallone, again, as Rocky. No hyperbole but the man deserves an Oscar nomination at the very least for supporting actor. Sadly I think he will be overlooked again.

Would recommend it for sure, just keep in mind this Isn't the type of Rocky film when Stallone was in his pomp, when the characters and fighters were larger than life, this is more based in reality. This is a sometimes sober reminder of how hard life can be and how much enjoyment we can get from getting caught up in rooting for the underdog no matter what the 'fight' is.

Re: Creed

Golden Globe winner for best supporting actor!

In his acceptance speech Stallone thanked Rocky Balboa for being the best friend he ever had.

Well played sir. I wonder if Oscar is watching!?

Re: Creed

Sly tweeting about 'Creed 2' a bit recently.

Insinuating that Adonis Creed will fight Ivan Drago (or maybe it's his Son?).

Sounds ludicrous. But i will watch it nonetheless (obviously).
