No Bill

Didnt he write on his blog when he went back to Japan that he would stick to his eord and sign for us pending permit approval or something along them lines?

A deal will be agreed but nothing in writing so no worth a fuck.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Checked a few Japanese sites about the NEC story. All seem to be from 12th December, and all sound like speculation. His latest blog entry is after the 12th and he's still mentioning coming back to Scotland fully recharged. Could all be wind and p1ss, you never know.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

I reckon he will stick to his word. Few reasons but mainly because he knows he would walk right into our team and start playing. I'm not giving up hope that he is coming. Already miserable enough with our current league position.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Japanese are a very respectful people.

If he's given his word he'll sign that's good enough for me.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Japanese are very respectful people?

I'm not away to disparage the name of the Japanese in a glib and flippant way but .....

Ach fuck it

Tell that to the people at Pearl Harbour

Re: Eiji Kawashima

The Japanese who get regularly blacked up on tv to portray soul singers etc or the Japanese who stick on blonde wigs and rubber noses to portray white people? Lol. Anyway , that's another topic!

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Well the limited number i have came into contact were anyway (respectful).

Giving the wee bow when they meet you etc.

They seemed to pride themselves on respect shown.Just my (admittedly) very limited take on their culture.

I'll leave the debate about Pearl Harbour for another day if that's alright.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

I don't think of the Japanese as 'respectful', but labels are not universal, are they? We have a lot of stereotypical ideas of other nationalities, for me the Japanese think of themselves as 'honourable'.

But if you've read about atrocities such as Unit 731, and the way we, the allies, let the Japanese away with crimes at the very least on a par with the worst that Josef Mengele committed, 'respectful' and 'honourable' won't be terms which come to your mind.

Nonetheless, all Scotsmen don't wear kilts and drink whisky.

Having said that, our folk aren't exactly paragons of virtue, are they?

Good and bad in abody, I suppose.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

I recall hearing that Unit 731 "got away" with their crimes because their victims, unlike the Jews, had no powerful lobby to demand retribution.

Nijmegen plan to offer Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima a contract after delays surrounding the 32-year-old's work permit application held up the completion of his signing by Dundee United. (The Sun, print edition)

Dundee United have booked a flight for Japanese international goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima, who is expected to watch their derby against Dundee at Dens Park on 2 January, despite Dutch media linking the 32-year-old with a possible 11th-hour switch to Nijmegen after his signing was delayed as a result of work permit problems.(The Courier)

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Right so whats the crack with the work permit he has been granted? Does thst entitle him to sign for just Utd only or would it cover him for the dutch team also or would it be a whole new process?

If they are to offer him an extra grand a week than we are he will sign for them.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Dunno about the rest of you but I am so pissed off with the entire "will he/won't he?"situation that I really don't give a monkey's whether he comes or not.  There are surely other keepers available somewhere?

What's 43-year old Rab Douglas doing these days? (Only asking, like!)

Hmmm, would maybe be handy to have until the end of the season. Plenty experience and could probably still put in a shift.
