Almost forgotten about Utd tops

The 'Centenary strip'.

We only wore it once iirc in a 3-1 friendly win v Dundee at Tannadice on November 10th 2009 (Shala,Cadamarteri,Daly).

Any other 'almost forgotten about' tops that you recall we wore maybe only a handful of times (or less)?

P.s. i thought that was a great idea to get people to sponsor that strip and put their business name onto the design of the strip.Hearts done something very similiar (and admittedly more stylishly) a few months back.

Re: Almost forgotten about Utd tops

All the letters of the businesses pealed on the first wash with mine. I wore it the same number of times as the team.

Re: Almost forgotten about Utd tops

there was a really smart centenary top around 2002 which we only wore once, plain black with a white collar. one of my all time favourite united jerseys. can't find a picture online, i think i still have my one at my folks house back home.

game was at rugby park and we drew 2-2, were 2-0 down before a steven thompson header then a craig easton volley into top corner earned us a draw

I had this top, it was really poor quality, smart design though.

Re: Almost forgotten about Utd tops

The '90th anniversary' strip.

Think we only wore it in 1 competitive match (2-1 defeat to Celtic on last day of 98/99 season).

Have a vague recollection we wore it just once more a few weeks later when we beat Newcastle Utd in a pre-season friendly.

Re: Almost forgotten about Utd tops

I remember as a kid, the pre season after we won the league, we played arbroath in a friendly and had the league winning top with a big black cow on the front.
I'm sure it was our first ever shirt sponsor (yorke's the butcher) and it was just for that game.

Or am I going mental

I wonder if there are any pics in existence of the said item.

Re: Almost forgotten about Utd tops

"Ecru"

Was scratching my heid the other day trying to remember what colour that was classed as.

Well i purchased that strip from the club and had all sorts of problems getting it delivered.Must have phoned the club shop about 3 or 4 times trying to chase up when it was getting delivered and kept getting palmed off, much to my anoyance.

Anyway...it finally arrives the day before i'm meant to go on holiday with a mate and i think 'fucking magic',but it comes out the jiffy bag looking creased as fuck,so what do i decide to do in my wisdom? You guessed it..iron it.

One minute later big charred hole in the bottom of it.One of our best away strips...waited two months for..phonecalls made during work...40 quid of my heard-earned paid...and i destroyed it after 10 seconds.

Lesson learned.

Re: Almost forgotten about Utd tops

I don't tend to iron strips (i only wear strips for 5 asides nowadays) just spray the scooty gas moisture thingy - then maybe a glide over the back with the iron for luck.

I've never ironed one since, and don't think i would ever risk another again (though it would only be my Son's now).

Once bitten an all that...

Just remembered another strip i had that i really liked. It was a 3rd strip too.Think we brought it out after we won the Scottish in '94.It was black and grey stripes and ROVER was the sponsor.

I might still have it up my auld man's loft somewhere.

Was it after we got relegated?I actually thought it might have been but was dubious because 3rd strips are normally for europe.

Wonder what the purpose of a 3rd strip was then? worked out that we might colour clash with 1 other team or something?

Back then it was every two years for a new kit (93-94 was an exception as it was a one year deal with Loki after the Bukta deal went tits up) so the black/grey 3rd kit was just a way of fleecing the fans after we were relegated unless that was part of the deal agreed with Pony at the time of agreement.

P.S Rab Shannon gives me the heebie jeebies thinking about him playing for us.

He wasn't as bas as Stewart McKimmie though.

Re: Almost forgotten about Utd tops

Always wanted to try and source myself one of these tops:

http://www.arabarchive.co.uk/kit.php?id=91

It was when Bukta went bust halfway through the season and Loki came in and made shirt which was basically a copy of the Bukta shirt but with a slightly different collar.  They were never on sale to the public as I remember.
