Starting next season. Starts with group stages, starting in July.
8 groups of 5, the winners of each group And 4 best runners up joining the 4 European sides in the last 16. Drawn matches will get a point a piece then move to penalties where an extra point will be awarded for the winner.
Btsport onboard with an £8m deal.
Baby steps towards full time summer football.
Also trips to some lower league sides which are always great fun.
I like the idea of this.
Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. Innovative, something different and in the summer too.
Might catch some teams out if they're still putting a squad together but can't pick real faults. For once they've shaken things up when it's needed.

I like it. . . Purely for the reason that it's different. Hats off for at least trying.
The only thing that should change is, a European place should be up for grabs for winning it,to sustain an interest in it. Otherwise, it's a thumbs up fae me.

The reason people lost interest in the League Cup is because they took away the European place for winners. Until that is restored, there is no real incentive for teams or fans. Not allowing Season Tickets didn't help either.
I quite like the format, but I agree with the Euro spot for winners.
Also, this should be done and dusted by the end of November.

It's a change, and might be one for the better.
Yet no Euro spot, while the teams who do get in Europe are exempt...... but at the same time noises keep emanating from the west for the bigger teams to have 'B sides' or reserves in the lower leagues.
And a two week (?) winter break, purely to allow Celtic and maybe nuRangers to play abroad.
It’s all about catering for the most influential teams, but I’d argue that if they think they should have B-sides playing in Scottish leagues, then they should be able the enter the competitions at an earlier stage. Presently teams in Europe do get a bit of leeway, but it’s just one game, not a whole set of fixtures.
Maybe the rest of the teams should play a series of groups, then Celtic get to play nuRangers in the Final, for the good of the Scottish game, of course.

Think the two week winter break is pointless. the two weeks they take off could be decent weather wise but a week later could be two feet of sna.
Summer football is the way ahead imo. March to November.
They had the groups years ago and folk lost interest because of too many meaningless games. As for euro spot being given for winners, great idea but we might not have enough euro places for it soon.

no happy that pre season will now be in June but apart fae that everything sounds good, defiantly needed changing.

I wouldn't get too hung up on a euro place for winnin it.
It's ine of only 2 trophies per year we can realistically hope of winning.
The joy of winning this cup at hampden in Spring is worth far more than the thought of getting popped out by some euro nomark before the schools go back.
I like it.

Just noticed that the final for new league cup format is November 27th next year.
I like that, get that tournament finished then start the Scottish, no big gap between semi and final as currently is.
Also confirmed that there will be a THREE week winter break after New Years fixtures from next season.
And one final thing that may effect us, if we end up in the Championship play off places next season our last league game will be May 4th, two weeks before the Premiership finishes.
Not ideal.

Or this year, next season, you ken what I mean.

Far better getting the LC out of the way before Xmas, rather than the final forgot about the way it has been recently.

On Topic the League Cup idea is a good one.
I prefer calling it non winter futba! But that's what should be aimed for too IMO using the Qatar World Cup to get the planets in line. This would give the corrupt Scottish futba authorities a better bargaining position with the broadcasters too re negotiating. Better and safer for us the customer. And early Europe should/would be better as we'd be mid as opposed to pre season.
When's the Petro Fucked Training Cup final next season?

Reluctant to give credit to the dicks in charge but the changes seem to be better.
Better run fae the top might have delivered change faster.
Good that the final is to be in November next year.

I wonder if they'd let us play last season's league cup final in the November pre-sale of the twins?
