It has come to our attention that the club has banned the use of drums for both home and away fans. We have a drum in our group which is a fundamental part of what we are trying to do at Tannadice. For years now we have believed that the atmosphere at Tannadice has being dire and we wanted to do something to improve it. We have taken inspiration from other teams who have their own singing sections/ ultra sections whatever you want to call it such as Motherwell and Celtic.
When we met the club back in the summer the club promised us they would do anything to help us out. We now feel like they are going back on their promise. As this is only been our first season things haven't been great but we are trying. We have a group of about 15 who are backing the team every game. We are looking for more people to join us but this latest news from the club is going to put people off from getting involved with us.
The club have told us that they received a complaint from the residents of Sandeman Street that the drum is too loud and are threatening to seek further action from Dundee City Council. This news has come as a surprise to us as we have had comments from other fans in George Fox saying they didn't even realise we had a drum in our section. So for somebody to complain about the drum being heard outside the stand is ludicrous. All messages of support from united fans or even residents of sandeman street are very welcome and would hopefully go some way to getting Dundee United to change their minds.

The club punted you out to the least likely part of the ground to gain support bud. The least able to connect the home support too. Hung out to fail but in an area where the risk to them was least. To do what you tell us is poor to say the least. Have any residents ever been taken up on a complaint regarding the noise that comes with goals scored or chanting?
This is bullshit.
Best thing to do is get yer selves back in the areas that sing and be a part instigating the atmosphere where it can be done.
Plenty of us that start and or join in trying to get the crowd going will appreciate you guys back in amongst where it happens and in numbers.
Rules can be thrust upon small numbers but laughed at on mass. Like standing in the ETL or being a septic fan in any part of the ground.
Time to get all the lads who are up for a chant in the Eddie T and be vocal and stood as one.
You have tried very hard bud whilst fighting cancer and I respect your efforts.
Let's see how you influence an area more appreciative. I know you tried before in the ETL but I think the edge to the right was the wrong place. Centre behind the goal bud!

Not fussed either way about a drum tbh wi ye TU but it's absolutely laughable that the club would ban drums because a resident complained and threatened to get the council involved.
It's a football stadium ffs.If you don't like noise every second Saturday don't move next to one..simple.
The club should have politely declined the request of the complainant...what are Dundee City Council gonna do at the end of the day?Get a court order out on the Drum?
Don't give up on the section mate.Been a tough start for youse what with the team being utter shite and some of our support quite frankly being greeting faced cunts and turning their nose up at your efforts rather than support it.
With or without a drum it can still work.Word of mouth can and will eventually work mate.Stick with it

Good points made. Well said.
Normally don't get involved in topics that are versus 'the club' but this is a weird one to go against supporters creating support to back complaining residents.
I've worked in the street and there is a fair few dees who struggle to peep at the view so bizarre that the club do this. What's fkn next? Painting the GF blue coz these pricks are offended at a day glow view fae their living rooms?

Cheers for the support lads. We would love to be in the ET stand but we would be stuck out the way again like we were before. We won't give up on our section but just makes things a bit more difficult for us as the drum is a big part of us for rhyme etc.

Excuse me for posting the idiotic post of the day, but is other kit feasible such as an air horn, or even a trumpet/coronet or something like that.
Sure we've all heard them being used to great effect in some oe the internationals, esp. dare I say it when England are playing. ( not suggesting God save the queen or Rule britannia or any sh1t like that BTW).

T_U, did they communicate with you, or just let it be known via a notice? I'll guess there was no direct communication, as this is an area in which the club fails.
This might seem as daft as Billy_Hainey assumes his suggestion to be: what about using a mobile phone containing drum recordings and Bluetooth technology? There will be a way around this, I'm sure.
But Arabnophobia has the best suggestion: get your season tickets transferred into the ET: it isn't impossible to do so, as I did it last season.

Through emails mate. We asked for a meeting etc but we're refused. It's a total joke though because our drum isn't even loud.
Would like to be in the ET but would be stuck away to the side again.

As Phobia says, sounds a bit of a knee jerk fae the Club. Without disrespect, I huvna heard your boys drum fae the ETL. Soundwaves from yours in the Dod Fox would head towards the away support and certainly not towards and affecting residents in Sandeman Street. I smell a rat (or a Dee) here (or baith!!!)
As TEK says, it's a futba stadium, what next, we all get our pusses duck taped? Albeit there's a few around me that I would gladly carry out that interdict on!!! Someone saying they are gonna complain and actually doing it are 2 separate things. And even if they did, the City Council then have to call in Environmental Protection to test the noise levels etc on a few occasions to determine if there are valid grounds for complaint etc. I'd seek a face to face meeting for clarification. Emails flying back and fro are not good.
And finally, I will also second the fact that you need to be concentrating your efforts on your fortnightly treatment and kicking "Charlie's" ass outta yer system (and yer excellent fundraising); so don't go stressing about this.

I'm not a fan of drums at games tbf but this is totally out of order from the club. Agree with bowers that I very much doubt a complaint has been made by a resident.

Aye Jouro scoped our Facebook post by the looks of it. Funnily enough nobody in the article have said they have complained to the club.

Aye TU, have the Club banned drums across the board, or have they indicated that it's just you guys. What I mean is, have they passed this info on to the Well and the Green Onions. Be a bit of a spat if they huvnae, and they turn up, drums 'n all when they're at Tannadice.

We were told it was a ban for both home and away fans pal. Weather or not they have passed it on is a different matter.

Sell them a sideways twist and bring many tambourines and a couple of megaphones bud.
15 glockenspiels!
Shedrule and never stop trying mate!

Did a wee experiment with Dundee and got in touch with them about taking the drum to dens... What do you know they were more than happy to let us take it to the derby.
Just goes to show that somebody at Tannadice really doesn't want it.

Have you ever thought that the sharp ratatatat of a side drum or two would sound a lot better and more inspiring than the dull thud-thud of a big drum?
