Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Finally a formation that suits us! McGowan and Dixon bombing forward giving us much needed width! Oh and of it means we don't concede 3 goals a game in delighted mixu has changed it up!

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

4-5-1 maybe?

We'll see in 5 mins.

Only one forward on the bench too and two full backs so whatever the formation is not much scope to change it

Did Gunning get a good reception from the crowd?

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Ffs - how to throw a lead away

Annoying thing is that StJ didn't show much and then didn't have to work too hard for their goals

Very frustrating

I was feeling pretty confident of a win for us today.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Honestly, I can't believe that. United playing fucking brilliant up to 40 mins, should have been 2-0 minimum.

Partick score a last minute winner FFS.

Felt St Johnstone sussed out what they could get away with eventually today. We are too soft.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Played with 6 defenders today and still crumbled, and from a winning position.

I don't see any evidence at all to suggest we are getting off bottom spot at anytime.

Depressing stuff.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

We played really well for about 40 minutes but they way we crumbled in the last 7 minutes of the first half was really alarming.

We also never offered anything really in the second half. The ref did his best to stop us as well, which didn't help.

Our issues are really clear though. Commanding goalie, getting shot of Durnan,  boys with pace to get around the strikers and most important, a big striker to hold the ball up and give McKay someone to play off of. A tough tackling midfielder would help as well although I thought Souttar and especially Rankin did well today. Its far from season over, but we must win at least 2 of the next 3.

I fucking hate St Johnstone btw.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

40 mins of the best we've played this Season. A game we should never have lost. We shouldve had a couple of goals more in the 1st half. Did you see Mannus spill the ball 3 times in the 1st half. But no chunt near him to pick-up the loose ball.

In the lead-up to their 2nd goal, think it was O'Halloran running down the wing. Where the phuck was Dixon? And Spittal shoulda just put him over the line. OK mighta meant a Yellow, but that didna seem to bother the Farmers market. They got about 6.

For large parts of the game, when they had the ball, we stood off far too much. They were getting about 10 yards free space each, even in our half, nae chunt making a challenge. No wonder we couldna get the ball. But when we had the ball in their half there were 2 of their players right on our man every time. No wonder we couldna keep the ball.

Thought the lino had flagged for a foul on McGowan, but no entirely sure. Will need to see the replay (Anybody comment ?). The lino was useless the whole game. On a loada occasions, he never flagged the throw-ins at all, or took ages to raise his flag, or waited until Thomson had made the decision first. Even when he did, looked like it was in slow-motion.

Dinna even get me started on that chunt Thomson. Nearly got 'chucked oot' fae the steward for shouting at the chunt. Might get 'chucked-oot' of Tekel Towers an'all. Hope he 'draps daed'.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Shoots of recovery there as hard as the result was.

First 40 we were a different team. Chasing in packs,  crisp passing going forward - using nice triangles to cut through the defence. We pretty much owned them up until the goal....

Not sure whether we tired or lost heart but dixon became anonymous. As did Spittal who I rated in the first half. Telfer could have been hooked at half time imo.cgowan did well enough throughout.

Can't help but feel we will get caught by playing out of defence/from the keeper at ALL times though.

How much improved was mckay with a bit of support from midfield!!!

Souttar did a lot right - his work rate was certainly up - but there were a few things he should have done a lot better.

All in all, it's a long road but we've taken wee steps along it. That performance would have beaten some bottom six teams....

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

honestly its not as long of a road as we think it is and although we played well, I really couldnt give a sh1t at this stage.

Points are all I care about now.  A few more weekends like this and its game over im afraid.

For the sh1t sandwich Mixu took on, his record here so far is not very good, and thats all I or probably he really cares about.  It's getting very f ucking worrying lads.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Canny lose heart we were the better team for 40min and the. Had a brain fart for four mad minutes!

I likes the system and though first half Dicker and McGowan did well getting forward! Main issue second half was Spittal and both Fraser and Telfer did nothing to link the play as they did first half.

One clear for me is that Mixu does not trust the boys on the bench to make an impact as the lack of changes showed! Thought Gunning did well and helped Durnan who I thought was ok today! Soapy again strutting about with little to show for me did well first half but was on occasion very slack second half!

Hopefully get one or two of these trialists in the door this week and we move on

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Dixon looked like he was struggling in the last 20 minutes. I thought he was feeling his hamstring but it might have just been cramp. Getting the new keeper, Morris, Paton and Erskine will help. Some new signings on top and we can get out of this for sure. Anyone questionning Mixu already a) wasn't there today b) needs his head examined. They looked fitter and better organised than I've seen this season. The shape was better but the problem is we've got about 6-7 decent players and 3-4 passengers who have too many deficiencies in their game that no amount of coaching will change. They need replaced and soon.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

The formation can work, although I'd rather it was 3-4-1-2, problem in no other striker is good enough. Morris in for  Durnan at the back and a bit more invention in the position behind 2 strikers, Eremenko?, and the GK position sorted and we'll be OK.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Ive seen us play a lot worse and win.  If Telfer scored his one on one its a different story. ST said last night that the French boy ,Pingu or whatever his name is signing on monday.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Folk keep saying we'll be ok.

We've won 4 League games in 10 months.

Even when Paton, Erskine, Morris and Dow were fit we were struggling like fuck.

6 defenders playing today and we still lose 2-1 (3 but for Maclean skying his pen).

It's looking pretty desperate for me.

I am impressed by Mixu but I think it might be too big a task in too short a time to get us out of this dogfight.

In truth I think we need about four players (Goalie.. ball winning central midfielder... right winger... big forward who can partner McKay).

None of those 3 will improve anything.

It's going to be a fight we all know that, but still believe we'll be OK,

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

4 mad minutes in the first half as you all say and the second half just reminded me of the 2nd half of the Scottish Cup Final as Craig Thompson aided and abetted them to kill time and kick at any opportunity.  A couple of weeks ago I listened to Hugh Dallas gush about Thompson and Collum and how highly rated they are in UEFA/FIFA circles, them being the cream of our crop.  I think I am losing the will to live.  But I still saw enough there that with a little luck we'll be fine.  But every week that passes with a hard luck story, the closer we are going to have to go to the wire.

I loved some of the Spittal/Telfer interplay in the first 40 mins, but they lost their way after those mad minutes.  Felt sorry for McKay again, but he showed what he'll do if we create chances and we don't frustrate him into wandering.

Finally, my head is getting done in with those around me giving the goalie pelters for his short passes out.  HE HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN TOLD TO DO THAT BY THE HEAD COACH.  I'M NOT A FAN OF IT, BUT GO HAVE A SQUARE GO WITH MIXU IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH IT.  IF THE GOALIE DOES NOT DO WHAT THE HEAD COACH WANTS, HE WON'T PLAY - SEEMPLES!

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Agreed Fooky.

Szromnik has definitely been told to play passes out rather than just launch it for our midfield to ultimately lose the resulting aerial joust.

Re: Utd v St.Johnstone - Sat 21/11/15 3pm

Tek, don't agree with you , I'm afraid.

We have played all teams once and the teams we have played twice are in 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

They are not our competition this season - anything we got from those games was a bonus. It's what we do against 7-11 that matters more to me. In the end, we are only 6 points behind 10th place. Our team is infinitely more organised than they were 3/4 weeks ago and in the first half but for wee deflections or passes being 1 step away from mckay, he could have had 4.

Yes things need to turn but we are coming into a streak of the teams around us and this is where we need to pick up points and I think we will.

I obviously hope you're right JD.

But it's no just this season bud.As i say 4 league wins since Feb (12 points),absolutely brutal stuff and i can't see us going on a winning run at the moment, more we might snatch the odd win/draw.

The signings Mixu makes in January (and before than) will make or break us.It's a helluva lot of pressure to put on him. He's having to scour the bargain bin market and in a way roll the dice and hope they come up sixes.

At the moment things look bleak.Time is on our side though we musn't become too detached otherwise panic will set in.
