Can someone please please tell me, cause I must be missing something, what he offers? I'll be very surprised if anyone can actually say cause he offers nothing, if he is our best winger at the club at this current time it's emmbarressing and going by last night it's no a goalie we need as szromnik was brilliant again, it's a centre half, a midfielder who is compative, a target man, a tricky winger who can take someone on and put a fecking decent ball in to the box! If we don't sign players who are going to massively change our squads quality in January I have absolutely no doubt about it we are going down and if it does I'll be straight down to York, to tell that pr'ck what he has done
His two goals in the derby were enough to show me he's got something.

Totally totally disagree, any player can have a decent 10 minute cameo! He offers absolutely nothing, and I really really can't understand why he keeps on getting picked, he's awful

Yeah and I disagree

that's 10 minutes more than the rest of them have produced this year.

I get what you're both saying, and to be honest I kind of agree.
The current squad, as it stands, isn't good enough to dig us out. Yeah, possibly. (Although I still think we're missing some key players who would make a difference.)
My point though, is that I look around the squad and I don't see McQuillans, Sinclairs or Heaneys. That list could've gone on for a long time! What I mean is, boys who are simply not up to it. I said in another thread, I don't think we've got bad players, we just don't have enough of the right sort of players. Leaders, alpha males, boys who simply wouldn't accept this and drag us out of it. Not necessarily better quality players. If Mixu gets that spine, I think virtually everyone in our squad would start to look like the players they are.
He's a 19 year old BOY. I'm in Trap6's camp on this and with you GC2. You canna go writing off everyone at such a young age. He was signed as an inside forward kind of midfielder was he not? He's wide as we've got ZERO wide players. He is not a winger, but he's being asked to do a job. With some leaders around him he will come good I'm sure.
It's like the fact for 3 seasons we have no-one from the midfield or the forwards who can head a ball; or challenge for a header. It is apparent to me that Mixu sees this too and does not want the goalie kicking through the middle where the opposition are going to header it back on top of our defence. So he's asking for it to go short to Durnan (who is a Stopper, not a ball playing centre half); or this diagonal to the full backs where a throw for the opposition is the result. We need to cling on for dear life until January as that was scary last night how slow, predictable and ponderous we were compared to them!

Eh thought he done well in derby and has shown signs of a player at times but then others hes fucking stinking.

He's a decent player with both a lack of experience himself, and very much a lack of experience around him.
This coupled with being played out of position, and an absence of height and width in the team, has made Spittal, and others, look short of talent.

This is the crux of the matter.....Spittal is not playing well enough to be in the team right now, we are in serious bother now and we need performances from every player that plays....we simply cannot afford passengers and Spittal is a passenger, yes he is young and has potential but unless he can show it right here now that is no good to us.

What is his actual position? No being funny, just don't have a clue.

He might be worth trying AGAIN at right back, or left back, given that Soots is not showing anything worthwhile?

I thought he looked decent at right back.

I'd say he's a central attacking midfielder, who played in that position for Queens Park, although he did slot in as a full back at times.
Maybe I'm suggesting he gets played in one position over a period of time, rather than getting moved about. I don't see him as a wide player, which is being asked of him just now, simply because we have no wingers.
Has looked no bad in a few positions - seems to be the problem, hasn't really had the chance to stake a claim in a settled team that's playing well.
He's hardly been our worst young signing - Telfer seems to have gone backwards this season - hasn't had as much criticism as Spittal - probably cos we've hardly seen him.
Tbf I'm not surprised these players are struggling given the lack of quality experienced players around them.

somebody above mentions spittal hasn't been good enough for the first team - but i guess seeing as he's getting played he's the best we have - we have nobody else we could replace him with.
My absolute dream is that Mcnamara cleans up his own mess by taking a few of the boys he signed down the road and clear some good wages up - even better, if york have a budget to sign players with!!!!!
We can only pee with the ccok we have for the moment, so best getting behind these lads - as tough as it may be.

Its a lack of inexperiance through the squad that could be majorly hindering him. Also he is played in diff positions and not stuck to one.

I'd play Spittal at Right back and get Souttar out of that position asap.

Sounds about normal for a 19 year old to be honest.

Yep laddie has a future but like a lot of our lads he's been thrown in way to early with the promise of play tippy tippy and ye'll get a big move! Boy should be with the youths playing in the 20's league and getting bench time not thrown to the lions in our first team.
