Eiji Kawashima

Was at the game yesterday! Japan number one would be a bit of coup I think if we manage to sign him

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Currently a free agent. Looks like his 3 year contract at Standard Liege expired in July meaning we could sign him.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Sounds like the experienced Keeper we need (on paper).

My only question mark would be regards his English.

As in... can he speak a word of it?

Excellent.

Quite an exciting and mysterious signing.

Assuming he signs of course.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Wow, that would be some signing if true.

Hasn't played much in a year but 70+ caps for Japan shows his pedigree.

I noticed Mixu made the point in his pre match interview that he wanted to see if the Pole was any good, that's why he threw him in yesterday.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

All our young Goalies would benefit massively from being understudy to an experienced Internationalist for a year or two.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Hope this is true what other reason would he be at Tannadice!

You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

I think this guy was at the last St. Johnstone game with ST? He had some Saki with him and ST told him to give it to Jackie after the game.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Always wary of Youtube showcase reels. But there are some impressive saves on here by Kawashima from some of the World's top players (Wayne Rooney, Leo Messi, Robin Van Persie etc).

The guy has played at a very decent level. And against some formidable opposition.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Played for Japan 8 times this year with 6 clean sheets. Most recently in June in a 0-0 draw. 71 caps. Was valued at over £2 m around a year ago. 6ft 1" tall and started 336 matches. Now 32.
We will be very lucky to get this keeper.

Only started 11 matches last season for Standard Liege.

The first paragraph sounds fucking magic mate.

It's that last sentence that concerns me.Why did he only play 11 games I wonder?

Massive loss of form or do Liege just simply have something very special between their sticks?

Re: Eiji Kawashima

Yohann Thuram. He was signed in August 2013 as aged 25. Monaco academy star, was France u21 keeper. Couldn't shift Kawashima and was punted out on loan to Charlton in Jan 2014.
Kawashima played his last game in December last year when Thuram got the gigg. Up till them they'd lost 13, won 10 and drawn 5. They then won 7 out of 10 and Thuram kept his place. His contract is until 2017 so with Eiji's running out I rekon he was the one for the future.

You've played a blinder on this thread Mr Phobia.

Absolute font of knowledge on this subject.

You'll doubtless be plagiarised by various hacks in the Dundee press in the next day or two.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

He's a good goalie, would be a proper coup if we actually sign him.

Re: Eiji Kawashima

seems he will be a good signing if we pull it off.
Watched the vid offshore we affshore last night and looks good some good saves but doesnt seem to hold the ball spilled most right into the middle o the box.

See how this pans out over the next few days but id be happy with him from what ive read online about him.

Sounds to me very much like the Cech and Courtois thing at Chelski.  As in life, the glamorous, younger (apparently) better looking model was chosen instead of the more experienced model.  It's not turned out too badly for Cech at Arsenil though has it?
