Captain Material???

I was speaking to a mate in work on Monday.
He used to be on dunfermlines books and was down at St Andrews at the weekend for the annual catch up he has with former teammates.
He told me he bumped into Dillon before the Celtic game and was talking to him about it.
Dillon was openly telling him he was dreading it and we would "get pumped".
He found this shocking as an ex player but hilarious as a dons supporter.

Even if he thinks it, that's the last thing he should be saying to anyone.
No wonder we take a scudding there all the time with that attitude.

Re: Captain Material???

Let's draw a line in the sand.  I was praying we could keep it below the NINE that The Sheep took under McGoo, so it was very much Mission Accomlished as far as I was concerned at FIVE!  Our season starts tomorrow mate and that involves Dillon as Captain I'd imagine.

Re: Captain Material???

Correct what has gone has gone and the line has definitely been drawn, tomorrow is the start of the season for us and hopefully we can see some passion on the pitch.

Don't see a problem if the conversation is meant for between friends. Can't be expected to say the usual footballing clichés to every Tom, Dick and Harry.

Would doubt very much he would say that if he thought your mate would blab about it and having it end up in a United forum.

Re: Captain Material???

I just wish we had a right nasty, cynical bastard as captain, somebody like Bowman, McInally or Webster.

I like Dillon and there is no doubting his commitment and love for United but he just strikes me as very laid back and not somebody who is going to kick arse when required.

They aren't friends.
He was out with his friends and bumped into Dillon.
Thats the first time he's met him.

I don't think he should be saying it in public, period.

Re: Captain Material???

The fact they are not mates and the lads a fan of a rival team means his re wording and slant on whatever came across supposedly from a very honest guy means nothing to me.

As regards captain material, I don't think any current player can claim they are as what's been lacking hasn't been fixed.
I hope when we eventually bring in a new player or more there is someone who can consistently lead by example with better effect and demand more.

Agree with both points SA.

Hard to afford a player who is clever enough to use aggression in the tolerable way and timing in today's pathetic legal  tackling climate.

You also need the refs on yer side with this type of player I crave.

Bow wouldnt last 10 mins on the park these days, a McInally might and a Webster of old would be fine. In acceptable (supposedly) current accepted hard line players I'd love a (hate to say it) Scott Brown type in our team but worry that he'd never get away with the same in Tangerine.

We'd have to buy 3 or 4 of them to cope with the suspensions bud.

Nothing will put me of bringing in a player like that though.

I really don't see the issue with what he said to be honest, so we will just have to agree to disagree on this.

Re: Captain Material???

So he met a guy he doesn't know and has never met before and felt the need to tell him we'd get pumped from Celtic, yeah of course he did.  Probably told him where he hides his spare key and gave him his PIN number too.

They were in the same company when he said it to someone he did know.
It's hardly a state secret.
Ever thought of taking up yoga?

Re: Captain Material???

I'm not disagreeing with the fact we are shite btw.
Just not happy our captain is happy to go into a game with that attitude.

Happy to draw a line under it though.
Hopefully attitudes change under Mixu.

Is English your first language?
Do you want me to break down the full dynamics of the group conversation?
If this is what your thoughts turn to after our first home win of the season, id really recommend the yoga or something else to calm you down.
