Only other thing I have any bother with is the way he gave up at Motherwell.
He was honest enough to admit that he was out of ideas.
His honest quality is also one of the reasons I like the guy. If he was less in that quality I wouldn't even know the reason I first mentioned.
I pegged it as him knowing the The Rangers gig was coming up and the Ibrox board couldn't afford to buy out his contract.

Although I've said I don't want McCall, I reckon he's a decent person who has often given us credit when we've played them. And I doubt he resigned in order to get to Ibrox: there was more than a four month gap between his resignation from Motherwell and taking up the Govan job.
He had a very good record against lower league sides, but was continually poor in results against the other top six, until his last season, when he was poor against all the sides. He also had a poor cup record, which is an important consideration for our club, in my view.

My choice FWIW would be Hughes, I think he has more fight and positivety than McColl but whoever gets the gig will need the support of all the fans through the early stages

Looking at records and stats means a lot.
Who deserves the credit for their record is hard to work out.
Some managers have reaped the benefit of previously signed and educated squads. Some build from nothing and a bad place to better and others find themselves in the right place at the right time.
Being a good man manager is one of the few stable consistent attributes going.
I think most of us fancy likable, respected characters as a new manager due to our feelings on JMac and a soft squad. We are looking for a more tactically aware, more respected manager with a track record that the players can believe in.
We are confused between wanting someone who can deal with the 51 we have and someone who can build a Utd team fae January onwards.
ST wants someone who he can get on with like a manwife and the players need someone who will kick their backsides and motivate them.
The club needs a cash injection, new quality players, a clear out and an end to selling off hope and the cream of the crop.
The new manager has a cunt of a job to do and negotiate.
ST has to consider all this and get it right or we will be looking again for a new manager.

What you guys say and also morally with being big mates with Sally, he did not want to be seen jumping in his grave so to speak.

STV reporting that Utd have made an official approach to Caley to speak to John Hughes.
Offline
And it's quickly been announced that Inverness have rejected Utd permission to speak to Hughes.
So we are now left with the situation whereby Hughes would need to threaten to resign which i don't think he will as he has a good relationship with their Chairman.

ICT Statement -
Club Chairman, Kenny Cameron, has issued the following statement...
On behalf of the Board of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC I can confirm that Dundee Utd have, today, requested permission from the club to open discussions with Team Manager, John Hughes."
"The club have stated previously that we wish John to remain with us for this season and beyond. This position has not changed and the approach from Dundee Utd has been rejected."

its tricky, maybe I am naive about all this but would we have any chance of feeling out Hughes behind the scenes to assure him that if he resigns... its his job?
Otherwise, im not resigning for the chance to simply join the running. Same situation as with Wright.

Fuck me, I'd rather have the ICT chairman as manager.

We've more than likely spoken with his agent a well as other managers agents and had a favourable response. Whether that ends up with another extended contract, pay rise and agent cut only time will tell.
Maybe ST will continue this around the SPFL in a tactful effort to drain opposition's player budgets and tie teams to managers who will need bought out of eventual poor spells.
Daily Mail reporting this morning that Hughes and his agent are keen to meet with United.
Have a feeling this may be going somewhere.
Unlike the fermers there's no sign (yet anyway) of ICT offering their manager a new contract.

Yep the ball is now in Hughes court, he wants to come the he needs to make it happen if not then we will be appointing McCall after the Scotland game IMO.
Hopefully he is meeting ICT chairman this morning to say he wants to speak to us which gets the ball rolling

There's maybe a reason they might not offer a new contract.

Quite possibly, in which case the refusal to allow united to talk to him is simply a means to gouge some more money from us.
Risky though.....if united turn their attention elsewhere it leaves them with a manager who's not gonnae be feeling the love....
Might be their chairman isn't wild about Hughes despite the cup win but doesn't see any replacement at hand right now....still that backfires if Hughes walks...
Hard to know what to think for now.

Every time we ask to speak to a manager we are probably just following the process to interview and weigh up candidates we fancy as candidates who have confirmed an interest through their agent.
I don't feel like defending ST but think some people don't understand that asking permission to talk to a prospect is just that. Both times we are knocked back some people think the prospective manager knocked us back. The reason agents give us hope may well be to manipulate better and longer contracts though.
Reality is maybe both, one or the other and ST maybe should have had a better plans
In place as he knew this was possibly coming.
We now have some issues evolving ie.
- Agents playing us.
-Managers going off the job as the negativity we have halted stutters on.
- One prospect supposedly taking the huff (according to the media)
- ST unsure of who he wants until he tries to spend some time with them to figure out if he can have a good relationship with them.
- The possibility that anyone named might be poached by a bigger team financially.
- The unity created by ridding the manager evaporating and heading towards rebuilding the split between fans through the pissing about and unplanned delays.
- The time lost in giving the new guy a chance to get to work fixing the squads' heads and new playing style.
- Other teams like the stripey unwashed picking off more young talent whilst we are rudderless and unmotivated.
- Stevie Campbell situation dragging on.
- Jmac and co. surely putting mates and agents clients off the idea through bitterness ie. Yogi and Lambert. Which might not matter but surely on the go.
- The all round loss of belief in the chairman's motivation for the club's best interests and feeling that we will continue to swop hope and talent for money.
- The most important worry for me is the squad. They were mentally unmotivated and lost before. If he doesn't bring in a managerial magician quick with some new style reassurances and backing.
I'm not usually negative but I'm worried that doing thing ST's way is slow, unplanned, disorganised and overly obedient to the rules. Most clubs would have tapped somecunt up by now like we have been plenty times.
Rant over!

McCall to be appointed on Thursday on the condition hes allowed to keep his squad together for three years minimum. You heard it first here. Won't talk to United until international duty is finished.

I would be happy with that.

Obvious question Morphy...source?
And how can he have gave ultimatums about the squad if he hasn't spoke to United yet?

Was he not spoken to before Scotlandvpoland? Doubt the ultimatum as one of his first orders of business should be to clear out all the rot.
Like the sound of it all the same.

The source apparently from someone who kens McCall well. Not going to claim to have been told first hand. ST apparently had a conversation with McCall prior to internationals, it went well apart from McCall saying he was unhappy with the sale of players and he would only take the job should he be allowed to build a squad. He says that was the reason behind success at Motherwell, consistent building of the squad.
Apparently was a pus shutter for ST but with the amount of set backs we've had McCall is increasingly becoming the only available option that has said, mostly, the right things.

Thompson wouldn't agree to that IMO. It'll be Hughes

I personally don't think he should agree to it either.

Thompson's interview on Arabzone on 29/09/15 was as uneasy an interview from a chairman I've seen. Wringing his hands and wriggling about his seat at questions from a varied media. The one thing that stuck out as a confident reply was this response. Read into it for yourselves and I don't know if it was before or after interviewing McCall.
" We're in a good place going forward as far as I'm concerned for the future and debt is what it is, it's a small amount of debt now, ehmmmm, we don't really have to worry about that now. We can build for the future now and it's about building a club again."
First thought as I digested it was that he was repeating a pre discussed/said belief that is the new pitch to a new manager over the old pitch of, " come here to sell yersel and the players to a bigger team and better dosh."
He surely knows that we won't get the best fix or fixer with the old pitch that worked well for a while before draining the team of potential, the fans of hope and the possibility of success.

No danger any candidate goes in and demands that of any club other than Celtic. Even then they'd be told to do one.
He's not done that.
