Just watched his interview there. (Maybe someone could add the link) and thought it was brilliant. I really hope people are happy that he's given it and now leave him to get on with his job in peace.
They won't. You know they won'tYou're right mate. Some are after blood it seems.
Thompson has done a good job. He made the wrong decision at the end of January. We need to put the last 6 months behind us. Season start proper on Saturday.

I think I am in your camp on this. Will watch the interview later. I have no doubt he has made plenty of mistakes, not least of which being the January debacle. My biggest contention this whole time was the contract that was offered to the manager but as long as there is a lesson learned there... i'm prepared to move on. Like I said elsewhere, my guess is that this player sales incentive came from the JM camp.
I am just delighted to finally be looking forward to a Saturday game without a ginat weight on the shoulders.

just reading that cuts from player sales wont be included in managers contract. thank fuck. happy with what im reading to be honest.

@Andy
No leaks? It was all over Radio Scotland and Twitter he'd been sacked almost immediately.
Should have been handled back at Tannadice and then a tactful statement released later that night.

Just watched all 10 videos or however many there were. That's a decent start Mr Chairman for the Club to start on the comeback trail. I certainly don't envy him and the Board having to choose someone, but so long as their choice is tactically astute, driven, experienced, organised and can motivate, I will accept whoever ticks those boxes. I believe such a person will succeed with our squad. The Chairman obviously has flaws and there's still stuff I'd like him to open up about, but it's time for his haters to realise that Dundee United climbing the league is surely more important than their hatred of him???!!!
Offline
Haters?
I don't think he's handled things well the past year and treated the position of Chairman with the respect and passion it deserves.
But I don't hate him. I don't know him.
I support Dundee Utd though, not Stephen Thompson. If I don't think the guys been doing a good job I'll comment on it. Same goes for if he does something good I'll afford him praise (as I have done on several occasions... in the past).
He has a big decision to make now and I hope he chooses wisely. He has too.

Yeah TEK, haters. You're a social media guy, so come on, you must see that? And nowhere did I say your napper fitted that cap bud. What he has done today is half way to doing what should have been happening since 02/02/2015. COMMUNICATION! It's hopefully a couple of welcome steps in the direction of recovery and rehabilitation for the futba club we all love.

A leak to me is him hearing from other sources, rumours etc before he's had the news directly.
What the Chairman did avoided that situation.
I know it wasn't official until last night but Jackie was told on Saturday, probably before anyone (including Justine?) else, that would not have been the case if it was dealt with back at Tannadice.
When I leave a job I ask my manger to meet me, depending on circumstances that could be face to face in our office, on the phone or on a client site, he has no idea what's coming. In the meeting I tell him I'm leaving for a new job, I then give him my notice in writing in the same meeting.
Same same but different.

Tbh there was only one place to do it and it was bang on final whistle on Saturday , even Jackie new when the Jackie Jackie get to fuck chants started he was a goner
Anyway Tannadice was shut

There have been far worse chairmen in football and no shortage of applicants for jobs at those clubs. Jobs in football are relatively scarce compared to the number of people looking, ST won't put anyone off.
Not sure where the "disliked in the game" thing comes from, that's certainly not what I've heard (if you discount Ibrox), but maybe you know different people from me who feel differently.
As for Jackie saying he was shocked, yeah right of course he was.
ST has made 3 howling mistakes as Utd chairman, Selling the 2 in January, giving Jackie the contract he did and not getting rid of Jackie sooner. Apart from that he's done well, far better than his father. The Boulding goal wasn't the first time we'd been saved from Admin and it wasn't events on the park that saved us before.
That said, he needs to stop the club losing money and start running balanced books, not relying on transfer fees. Any transfer fees should be used for major infrastructure improvements or expansion of youth programmes not to cover losses. Any more major mistakes from him and his time will be up.

Thompson stated that the letter was for a meeting not a sacking.
He wanted to do it face to face.
I think the timing of it puts the fans first, not the outgoing manager, which I don't think he can be faulted for.
The statement couldn't be released until the settlement was negotiated.
If it wasn't leaked he'd be criticized for taking too long.
He even got it done for a reasonable £180k, not the anticipated £500k expected from some quarters.
I think laying potential admins at his door are harsh. When you start at -£6M and you need a competitive team, situations like that will arise.
Hopefully we can all move on from this with the right appointment and some decent results on the park.

Just watched his interview today.
Was very impressed with what he said and how he said it.

Anyone still think working with Thompson isn't playing some part in this?
That's Pressley,Wright and Hughes all knocked us back.

Wright and Hughes didn't knock us back.
St Hohnstone and ICT have refused us permission to talk to them

If they wanted to come in any capacity they'de indicate to their Chairman that they wanted to at least hear what we had to say.
No Chairman wants an unhappy Manager on his hands afterall.

I don't think you base that on ST though.
It's probably an unappealing job based on increase in expectation, current staff / position and also lack of wage rise.
They both have considerable good will at the clubs they are at based on cup wins.
Would you move from that to a high risk job for little improved terms?

We have turned into the fun, this saga is a joke getting public knockbacks from St Johnstone / wright....now ICT
This is what happens when you make bad decision after bad decision, ST should have punted JM after the last game of the season and we could have had our pick of good managers in the summer and actually signed some proper players.
Our club's stock is at an all time low......reaping what we sowed!!

What makes you think that ICT and or the farmers wouldn't have knocked back approaches for their managers during the summer?
Which managers would we have had our pick of during the summer that we're not going after now?
Agree that JM would have been better gone earlier but I don't think it would have made the search for a new manager any more knock-back free.

Absolutely no one has knocked us back, unless I've missed something.
IMO it's unlikely in the extreme that United would have approached either Wright or Hughes without taking some soundings....through the agent or other contacts.....and would not have approached the clubs without some indication of interest on the targets behalf.
Of course in both cases their contracts didn't have long to run so in some ways, as I've said before, a win win situation for the manager concerned.
They'll find out rapid if they're still wanted where they are.....if not they can move on....if they are it's an improved/extended deal.
No one's gonnae say theyre not interested in these circumstances.

Pressley was contacted immediately.Rebuffed it immediately.
We have officially approached the employers of Wright and Hughes...we haven't done that just for a wee chat beh christ.
They might not have 'knocked us back' officially but by not pushing their respective Chairmen to let them speak to us they more or less have.
Managing Utd appears to be viewed as a 'poison chalice' at the moment.
Now of course a big part of this will be because we are bottom of the league and taking the reigns will be viewed as a big risk to a potential Manager's cv should they take us down.
But i also view Thompson as being part of the problem.
Thought it was ridiculous that in the interview he was banging on about us having 51 players and any new Manager having to offload players in January if he had designs on bringing any new recruits in.
He couldn't make the job sound anymore unappealing if he tried tbh.

Said it before on here and elsewhere: I don't buy that story about the Boulding goal saving the club from administration, or going 'straight to liquidation' as has also been mentioned.
Pat I'm lead to believe that the top 6 finish meant we got instant cash, bottom 6 and we had no cash flow to pay wages, I remember I posted something similar on mad when I shouldn't have and quite a few posters were saying shite etc, but a few years down the line we are in a worse position now than we were in then

Have to agree with this.
Fuck knows what he was thinking with the 51 players comment.....keeping us up looks a tough job without being told you might not be able to make any signings.
Plus if there is no money in the kitty how was he planning to pay for McKay before the transfer became a loan....£200k fee IIRC.
Needs to engage his brain before putting his mouth in gear.
