Re: So it's Tommy Wright

Tell you what is starting to get on my nerves.  This rush in thinking just because JM was soft as shite and couldnt organize a back four, that we need to go out and get a manager who shouts his brain off like Tommy Wright, Steve Evans and/or Hughes from ICT.

I mean aye alright Tommy Wright has done a good job and has always had our number,  but his game plan against us isnt exactly rocket science is it... get in amongst us, bully us and we'll fold like a cheap tent.  Fair play but its not like there arent other managers out there who cant devise that f ucking whopper of a strategy.

So we shouldnt look at anyone else with a track record because they arent boisterous knuckle dragging chunts?  How many Champions League appearances have St. Johnstone made?  Would you say that McCall had more resources than him at Motherwell??? f ucking barely if so.  When you consider the players we had the years they made it into the champions league with what they had THAT INCLUDES ANIER FFS!!! How anyone doesnt fancy him at our club I just dont get it..

Unless you're hunted by a freak and dont want anything that has had anything to do with the old firm, which frankly I can understand.

Re: So it's Tommy Wright

Fair point regarding over crediting Wright for getting the tactics right against us. McCall didn't manage to do too well in that respect when he set up against us.

I'm not excited about any of our so called top 3 nominees really.

Re: So it's Tommy Wright

51 player squad needs trimmed before any new manager can add his own style of player so we need someone who can deal with what's there first before hopefully  doing some big changes in January.

Fuck knows how you clear out the number we need rid of in one transfer window.

I did mean the squad he inherited mate.

St.Johnstone were no pushover's even prior to him taking the reigns and already had the likes of Wright,Anderson,May,McKay,Mannus,Craig and Davidson in his squad.

Not taking anything away from him because he went a step further than Coyle,McInnes and Lomas and actually won something with them.

But he didn't have to build a team is my point. He inherited a competitive team+squad not a top-heavy imbalanced squad who are over reliant on young players either not ready for the rigours of Premiership football or just not good enough.

Whether he could actually rebuild a squad which is an on-going seasonal thing at Dundee Utd it would seem is anyone's guess. And tbh i think too much of a gamble to be handing out 3 year deals to him the more i think about it.

P.s. i also don't believe for one minute Utd have a stronger squad than St.Johnstone currently.

He finished higher than st. Johnstone.  I understand your apprehension but so what if we gave them a few rinsings? They finished higher than us right enough, higher than st. Johnstone, which means they found results elsewhere.  There are more teams in the league than DUFC.  I'll say again, he's worked magic getting that side into europe, nevermind CL.

PS his record against st. Johnstone is pretty decent. Including during wright's tenure.

100% agree with this. I'm not convinced he's got what it takes for the shitstorm he'll inherit at Tannadice. It's a gamble.

But then again, McCall bailed on Motherwell when he said they were heading into the same situation as we are in now. What makes him able to pull us out of the mire that he couldn't have done at Motherwell?

Mixu, well he'll boot fuck out of Souttar at least. Struggling beyond that.

I'd take Hughes tbh.

Still think we should go down on both knees to Levein though.

Agree.  I know somebody very well connected at Tyncastle and although he has it cushy there at the moment, I believe Levein would take another managers job if he felt it was the right job for him.

Re: So it's Tommy Wright

Day 11. . . . . . Think today should be the day that TW either rules himself out, or let's it be known that he's ready to listen to what we have to offer.

Re: So it's Tommy Wright

Wright looks like he is away to sign a new deal at St Johnstone.

Boy's played a blinder - Say nothing, get yer Chairman worried you might leave and before you know if you have a bumped pay rise and an extention to your contract so if it does go tits up they have to pay you more to get rid, and you continue to work with boys who are playing for you and the shirt and aren't a bunch of prima donnas.

Right away to see what my gaffer has to say about a pay rise!!

Never actually been convinced Wright was a genuine target, not fussed at all he isn't coming.

Re: So it's Tommy Wright

ST plays out news stories in the press.....again

All it does is make Hughes or whoever else takes it feel like second best.

Worked when trying to bully bohs and has worked when trying to bully saints.

Don't want to jump on the get at ST bandwagon but deal with things properly. Keep it to yourself and announce it when done rather than leaking to spencey or duthie

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: So it's Tommy Wright

Don't worry about any candidate feeling second best though. Any manager who seriously wants the gig will want it more when they feel it's getting away fae them.
Not a bad thing at all.
Egocentric players take the huff with that sort of stuff and they can rightly fuck off.

I've not seen Spence or Duthie hint at anything since the Wright deal fizzled out. Harsh to say ST is playing this one out in the press. Although, like his father before him, he's never been shy of gossiping in the Royal Arch before...

Just signed a new four year deal at Saints, contracted until 2019.

He's played that very well.

That's a long time in fitba terms. Will they want him until 2019?
