Set Pieces

Old man was on the phone with me raging about the goals from Corners and set pieces.  His theory about this is that we dont and havent had a goalkeeper who knows how to setup and organize in these situations.  I agree with him.

Thoughts?

This isnt a knock on Zwick by the way, he'll be a good keeper!

Re: Set Pieces

Should clarify this was also one of his big complaints on Rado.

Re: Set Pieces

At the corner we conceded from against ICT, the whole of the east stand had stood up and pointed out the unmarked man at the back post shouting 'back post'
If 3000 people shouting it at once has no impact, I'm not sure you can blame the keeper
Not a pop at your old man btw, our defending is just shite

Re: Set Pieces

In a nutshell, we're sh1te at defending them.

Re: Set Pieces

We certainly are.  Its training ground stuff to remedy it but most teams I've played on its the keeper that calls out if someone is unmarked and gets you organized.  Not blaming him, just might be a product of not having someone experienced in there.

Re: Set Pieces

It's wrong of me to pick on him, but at 6 fit whatever he is and built like a brick shithoose.  Go watch Saintees first goal and the role of John Souttar.  It sums up everything about the McNamara reign.  Then ask, what would Wee Jum have said or done if that was going on week in week out just outside the 6 yard box?

Re: Set Pieces

Shit again.  Someone has to take responsibility for how we are setting up on these.

Even things like throw ins. We rarely show for the ball and pretty much never benefit from them.

We are crap at taking and defending set pieces.

Oooooohhhh yeeeeeaaaaaah!!

Car crash stuff again and another wasted journey traversing the Country.  Thank FCUK I'll be flying to America Thursday.  Look forward to giving you a buzz on your cell phone mate when I'm over.

There were 6 of us in the corporate hospitality amidst all the Harry Wraggs and it beggared belief that Thistle were also using the over hit corner routine on us to great effect!!!

Re: Set Pieces

The zone team were in the Partick end.  Sounded like the players & supporters were right up for it and we couldn't match. Woeful.

Re: Set Pieces

We've been shite at set pieces since Levien left, only club in the country that can't take a throw in, can't remember last time we scored from a free kick, terrible zonal marking under Houston and Jackie. The problems have been papered over for years.

Re: Set Pieces

The last free-kick we scored was Gavin Gunning v Motherwell (3-1 win on a Friday night).

Was about 20 months ago.Absolutely ludicrous stat.

Re: Set Pieces

If we get Wright I can guarantee after a month we will be defending like a proper unit and carry a much more potent threat at our set plays.
