Re: Next Dundee United Manager

That interview is sheer class hahahahaha! Reminds me of a Neil Lennon character

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

He played for the Johnnies in the mid-80s, but never played against us, as the Johnnies being in Division 1. Think he broke his leg or something, and he couldna play again.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Fuck knows how good he is tactically.  He has managed a handful of clubs in lower leagues with good results and his win rate is brought down after promotion with one in particular.
Seems like a strong character one that folk would love or hate. He has been involved in all sorts of controversy from abusing match officials to contract irregularities which he was suspended for 20 months and banned for 6 games dropping his breeks to a female steward after a match were 5 players were sent of for brawling. Sent off from the bench plenty times for numerous naughty stuff.

Seems to be a nut job who creates a shit storm on a regular basis but gets results.

Rekon he likes a drink and reminds me of Andy Gray.

He'll do for me.

Need an opposite to JMac in a way, not another yes man to ST or distracting contractual capers.
Someone who can grab the players by the baws and motivate them.
Scouring the net for info on Steve Evans throws up a mix of good and bad but can't say the bad is bad for me although I don't want a manager that gets himself suspended or banned too much.

He is ahead of McCall, Hughes and Mixu for me.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Managers like players have purple patches in careers.  Fuck knows why but they do. Maybe down to timing, luck or opposition sussing their strengths and weaknesses.

I like the idea of McCall, likeable, respected guy that talks a good game but don't know if he has lost something. The way he packed in Well after waking up in the middle of the night worrying that he couldn't think how to counter us. Wright would wake up any morning with a plan and structure to play us and I don't fancy him at Tannadice either.
Presley is out but the way he talks through clenched teeth does my fkn nut in and Yogi cannae even pronounce the number shree!

Cathro won't come, Burley, Mcleish and Butcher can just fuck off and Davies has the wee man syndrome. Big Dunc is as good a shout as Phsycho for all the same reasons and we'll find out soon enough if that's gonna work. Nae body seems to consider that outcome. I'd love it if Bow fixed us.
Would take some cracking results for ST to give that a chance.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Never heard of Evans, sounds like a horrible cunt, maybe exactly what we need.

He doesn't exactly set a good example in the body conditioning department.

Obvious down sides are he's never managed a club of our size or in the top flight. And I can't imagine he'll know much if anything about our squad and our opposition.

Has he declared intetest?  I can't see him appealing to ST, type of boy we need though.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Did I not read that he'd (Evans) take the Motherwell or United job? So basically any is fine?  Sounds like a right nut job. Couldn't see him working well with Thompson either.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

I'd take Evans every day of the week above Wright & Hughes, cannot see any the two of them coming to Tannadice so I'm safe enough.

Agree we this.

People like Hughes,Wright, and McCall will ALWAYS be available. A left field option like Evans however only crops up now and again.

The Rotherham fans were genuinely surprised and shocked that he's left them BTW. Well regarded down there.

He's my first choice by a fair bit now.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

I'd have thought that Evans could get us into Top Gear!

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

After careful consideration, my 2nd choice is now Tommy Wright. Getting him aff St J will be a problem tho. The Broons hate us we a passion.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Wright and Hughes may not be the most likeable of people but as managers they tick all the boxes
Experienced and tactically aware
Their teams are no push overs
They defend properly
They work on tight budgets
They would sort out some of our players that lack dig

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Oh oh - Terry Butcher has just left Newport County....

01/10/2015 4:52 pm  #192

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Oh oh indeed.

If he's getting sacked from England's (Welsh I know)  worst team , he doesn't deserve the chance to manage Dundee Utd.

Motherwell can have him back.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

Think this is turning into a 2 horse race.  Can't see Tommy Wright being viable.

It'll be McCall or Evans imo unless there is an applicant from left field catching the eye.

I'll be disappointed with Steve Evans but can see why people want him.

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

There is not a cat in hells chance ST would entertain Evans he will go for a Period of stability Evans would be a walking nightmare with his baggage. IMO he will go for a manager already in employment too much s made of compo how much would it cost to but out wright IMO about 75 to 100 grand tops we waste that on players who don't even play for us because they are on loan. Hughes got 9 mths on hs contract maybe 50 grand there not saying that's who we should go for but if he identifies a manager he wants he will pay compo. If its true we tried to get oneilfrom nth. Ireland their FA would have been looking for compo , and therefore we can assume ST is willing to pony up enough to get his man . Il be amazed if its mixu/mcall/Evans

You honestly think we approached someone at an International setup on the verge of getting to the European Championships?  Colossal waste of time and would be absolutely shocked if we took the time to approach them.  Think some of the expectations are a little unrealistic.

Hughes much more realistic.

We did Richard Wilson confirmed on radio scotland  but was a no goer what I was alluding to is compo isn't a deal breaker not that we had a chance of getting him . Which we didn't

Re: Next Dundee United Manager

If Shitey gets Northern Ireland to the Euros his managerial stock will rocket. He'll have his pick of jobs down South in the Championship at least. He'd be out of his mind to leave that and come to us or even take our job on a part-time basis. Imagine if he came to us then they didn't qualify? His reputation would be in tatters because he'd be blamed for taking his eye off the ball for them.

Too much commotion
