Having listened to Allan Preston staunchly defend his pal Jackie’s record on Radio Scotland last night, I decided to research it for myself thanks to the excellent Arab Archive and here’s my findings:
I’ve done all 4 seasons individually, but for the purposes here, I have split his reign in two: up to; and then after the infamous Scottish Cup Final game at the San Giro (and thus the loss of Gauld and Robertson and subsequently the San Giro Trio) to his P(erth)45.
The First Half (up to 17/05/2014)
Cups – Played 11
Won 8 ie 72.73% Lost 3 ie 27.27%
League – Played 52
Won 20 ie 38.46% Drew 15 ie 28.85% Lost 17 ie 32.69%
Overall – Played 63
Won 28 ie 44.44% Drew 15 ie 23.81% Lost 20 ie 31.75%
There were 13 clean sheets in the 63 games ie 20.63%
The Second Half (post 17/05/2014 to the present)
Cups – Played 9
Won 6 ie 66.67% Drew 1 ie 11.11% Lost 2 ie 22.22%
League – Played 47
Won 18 ie 38.3% Drew 7 ie 14.89% Lost 22 ie 46.81%
Overall – Played 56
Won 24 ie 42.86% Drw 8 ie 14.28% Lost 24 ie 42.86%
There were 12 clean sheets in the 56 games ie 21.43%
So you’ll see that in the tale of two halves, Jackie’s League win percentage is pretty much the same, as is our inability to keep clean sheets. His problem, was that ability to only keep a clean sheet every 5 games added to post 02/02/2015 us only scoring 12 League goals in 15 games last season and scoring 9 League goals in 9 games this season. That lethal combination plus his recruitment policy is what holed him below the waterline.

See you Jackie
