Should football transfers be banned?
"That's the revolutionary idea being put forward by world players' union Fifpro who have lodged a legal complaint against Fifa with the European Commission over the current system in place.
Fifpro believe the current transfer system breaches EU competition law and that beyond the big, cash-rich leagues in Europe "there is almost slavery taking place" where players are unfairly bound to contracts and denied the freedom of movement granted to other workers.
The union also argues that the current system is anti-competitive, as only a handful of clubs are able to afford rocketing transfer fees, while the majority of clubs are left behind."
Maybe I'm giving ST too much credit and doubtless the legal stuff will take ages to crawl through the courtd, but if we're relying on transfer income to clear debt you'd want this done before any resolution of the court action.

Seen that last night in the Tully. That'll kill football stone dead in this country due to the lack of other sources of income; poor crowds and rubbish tv money.
We will end up with a situation in the not to distant future where there will be a handful of clubs from every country playing in the Champions League and thats it. Football will die as an entity. The passion will go out of it. Any other football will be amateur. Grim.
