Nowhere near as good as was made out when he signed?
OR
McNamara not getting the best out of a talented player?
What say you?

He isn't worth what we paid for him on the evidence of what he has shown so far, I would say that if we knew the fee we would not have pursued him.
He lacks the upperbody strength to play just now in my opinion.

Great wee player IMO, just lacks abit of strength.

I'm not sure we are playing the sort of football for players like Telfer or Connolly to flourish - however, I do worry that essentially they are both just not good enough. But given their style of play it must be dependent on them having pace on the flanks and someone up front who can hold onto the ball and bring others into play.
As it is, if you do play Telfer wither in front of the back 4 or in the hole, he needs to pick up the ball and start spreading play with people racing up the sides to create space or, play it into a striker who can then move play on. I don't think we are set up to do either, so I'm not really sure what he's meant to do. He's not got the pace of a Stretch to pick up and dirve through midfield and pick up the second ball.

He's decent, there's a few boys going backwards at the moment IMO. Need to get back to basics on the training ground instead of all this super duper sports science led bullshit that will do nothing until boys are actually fit.

Both Telfer and Connolly have above average skill, but below average physique. At their stature they need to be Strachan's, Gemmil's, Bremners, etc., in order to cut it at a top level. Graeme Payne had more skill than both Telfer and Connolly put together, but he couldn't hack the physical side of the game. That will be the case with Telf and Conns, sad to say. Gauldy was lucky, being plucked by the Portugese outfit, away from the SPFL. Spits will be lucky to cut it too. Taller than the diminutives, has the skill, but can't develop it, probably because the game is too physical. Scott Fraser is the opposite. Big, strong and skilful.

Know Telfer was on the bench on Saturday, but anybody know anything aboot Murray or Erskine?

Telfer's showed in some games that he's got ability, but doesn't have the legs, the strength or the determination to make any meaningful impact as yet. As someone said earlier its really unclear where we should play him, he can't run beyond, he's not defensively minded, but is not really a natural number 10 either. That said, he can take a goal and when he's on his game his ball retention is excellent. However against Aberdeen 1st game this season he gave the ball away nearly everytime he got it.
Scott Allan has similar stature to Charlie, but is able to go past people and is always looking for reverse passes and through balls whilst Gauldy was almost like a magnet for the ball with the incredible awareness of everything around him and passing ability. Armstrong had bits of both these players but not as good, however he more than makes up for this with his pace and strong running.
Charlie needs to try and up his game and improve physically if he is to get anywhere near these three. He's never going to be an Armstrong but should be aiming to play in a similar style to Allan at the very least.
