Re: Ralph Milne

I'm actually re-reading his autobiography at the moment.

By his own admission he likes a bevvy and has done for years.Possibly caught up with him?

Whatever it is I wish him all the best and hope Ralphie can make a speedy recovery if possible.

Re: Ralph Milne

LEGEND!

Wishing him every good wish for a recovery.

Enjoyed a pint and a great banter with Ralphie in the 4 J's whilst we were pumping the dee by 3 to zip a couple of years ago. Folk exaggerate his drinking problem although it was for real. Any time I've met him he was just like us.

Re: Ralph Milne

Sad turn of events for Ralphie, who even Jim McLean couldn't manage to convince of his own talents.

Tbh Pat re-reading his book the now and can't but help think that he pissed away what should have been a trophy laden career in England and a World Cup Star with Scotland.

Brian Clough apparently tried to 'tap him up' in the Tannadice boardroom during drinks in the aftermath of JYM's testimonial v Forrest.

By the time he did go Down South by his own admittance he was washed up.

A shame because those should have technically been his peak years.

That said what he did achieve at Utd was special and will never be repeated.

The double edged sword of being a special footballing talent it seems, so many geniuses seem to suffer off field.

Ralph on his game was simply unplayable.......

Re: Ralph Milne

He played in the first United team to win the Scottish league. He is a legend -they all are in that team

This is a sad day for all United fans.

He will be remembered for that goal and what a goal.

Oh, what came of the things we once believed?

Re: Ralph Milne

So sorry to read this news. I've no way of finding out, but I think I saw Ralph's debut, maybe at Kirkcaldy, and he looked nothing like the player he would eventually become for United. Perhaps 1978, pre season, and he seemed very nervous.

It was fantastic to see him at his peak over a number of seasons at Tannadice, he should have been one of the biggest stars this nation has ever produced.

RIP, Ralphie.
