New Development League season starts for Stevie Campbell's boys tomorrow night versus our neighbours Dundee.
Be interesting to see if the likes of Bodul and Sneijder will see any game time to try and aid their fitness.Possibly even Anier?

might be an idea to give darkomand sniejder a start to try get match fit.

Any idea where the game is taking place and what time is kick off?
Cheers in advance

7pm at Montrose.
Think I'll go along to this, but I'd be disappointed if I went only to find that our overage player was Jordan Moore.
Sneijder, Bodul, Fraser, Connolly and Muirhead should all be playing in my opinion.

A wee match summary would be appreciated later on SG.

Is it just me or do the Development Squad and the 1st team appear to operate totally independently of each other? ie we don't seem to use it to give boys who are unfit or underperforming in the 1st team game time. Are we the only team in the league which operates this policy? How do we give the fringe players game time then???? Closed doors/bounce games that the fans never hear about??? Surely boys like Anier, Muirhead, Bodul, Sneijder, Scott Fraser, Moore should be getting game time to get them up to speed asap? Dowser and Morris will be the same in a few weeks as well.
Fraser, Muirhead, Connolly and Moore (maybe not) are all still eligible anyway so its not like we are abusing the spirit of the 'Development' idea.

Its the system that's wrong. There's no where for the fringe players to go now if clubs use the development league the way it should be used.
Only in Scotland can we "think" we're doing things right, but it's the exact opposite. What would be wrong with a reserve league and an under 19s league?
That way, everyone gets game time. It's a piece of shit.

The Developent team should always be to aid the 1st team in anyway possible.
Why we can't play 2 or 3 1st team fringe players every week is anybody's guess.
Walter Smith and Archie Knox played in the reserves regulary in the latter part of their Utd careers and wee Jim often said he felt that really helped bring through the likes of Narey,Payne,Malpas etc by talking them through games.
Surely it would also help assist the players who aren't fully fit like Bodul and Sneijder?Or players who haven't seen much game time in pre-season like Connolly or Anier.Could also help with the latters confidence if he banged in a couple of goals.
I just don't get what good it does us to constantly play against older teams and hardly ever win.
Looking at the team in today's Courier (it was a 1-1 draw btw) and all young lads - no first team players.

Apparently Reghan Tumilty was playing right back.
I thought he was a striker?

Totally agree with Silver and TEK above, I appreciate that we need development football, and believe that the score isn't the most important thing at that level but there has to be something in between that at first team?
As stated above, reserve football gave experienced pros a platform to show the manger they are worthy of a run in the first team, to get back to match fitness, to help bring on youngsters etc. Likewise it gave those youngsters the chance to learn of and play against experience pros in a pretty competitive environment.
I used to go to loads of United reserve games as a kid and they were brilliant.

He is, used to be brilliant on Football Manager.

Todays match v Ross County in Brechin at 2pm will be very interesting for a number of reasons.
First and foremost to see the response of the players,be that either positive or negative.
Get the feeling we might also see one or two first team players feature today.

Full Time score was Utd 1 County 1
Ali Coote scored.
Utd played a trialist at Centre Half apparently.

16 year old Harvey Dailly (Christian's young lad) signs a 2 year deal to become a professional player with Utd.
Anyone else feel old?
Remember his Dad's debut like it was last week.
Edit - Apologies Mr Hainey, just saw your post.

same here Tek, remember him terrorising Rangers in the Cup Final 94? First half they couldnt handle him... strange how he adapted his game over the years. You would never have thought back then that he would end up a central defensive midfield type player eh?

Started out as a striker iirc.
I'm sure he scored 2 that day at Perth in his first full start.

spot on, unreal when you think about it. Was he only 17 when he debuted? You'd think he would have a good mind for management given he knows just about every position. Is he still in the game?

Think he works in athletics now. Could be wrong.
