Townsend Out

Townsend out for a month with a foot injury!

What's your opinion on covering our left back?

Re: Townsend Out

Big blow that....got to be Dillon if fit ...if not petrie or spark

Re: Townsend Out

Major blow. Exactly the reason why we needed to get a back up left back in. I don't really fancy Dillon at LB, and I don't think he does either.

Wonder if there is anyone half decent without a club? Probably not.

Re: Townsend Out

What about Butcher? Anybody know what's going on we him. Can he not play LB?

Re: Townsend Out

Not even dissapointed with the news,i'm angry.

I said 4-6 weeks ago i would question McNamara's management if we never signed another Left Back AND forward.

Now with 2 of the most important games of our season coming up we go into them without a recognised LB.Absolutely fucking ridic considering we've took in 5 million in transfers this Summer.

If we get punished down the right hand side in the next few weeks McNamara will deserve every bit of critisicm/abuse that comes his way.

Even if we sign another LB in the next week or so will they even be 100% fit ?Gives them very little time to integrate within the squad before huge season defining matches.

Poor short-term 'hand-to-mouth' management.

Rant over.

Re: Townsend Out

Although I kinda share your opinion of this TEK, I don't share your anger (well no yet anyway - that as you say will depend on the results). However I'd be lying to say I wasnae a bit nervous, even worried.

Edited - I've just noticed that I've just been accepted into your 1st Team, so I could offer my services FOC, but I'm about 20 years too old for it now.

I'm angry at his short-sightedness Bill.

Even if we somehow do get by the next few games relatively unscathed that will be more to do with luck than design. This will also crop up again during the season, either again with Townsend being out and/or Ciftci/Bilate.

Re: Townsend Out

One other point of note.Spark got sent off in U-20's last game so he can't be called on for the next 1 or 2 games i think.Leaving Petrie,Rankin or Dillon if he's fit anytime soon.NONE of them even a LB.

Re: Townsend Out

Aye it's a blow especially with they're boy Roberts running amok against the cellics Iggypape at Dens recently, good thing is Jackie has GMS tracking back now to help his full back otherwise we would be soft as putty down that side of the park. On the other hand though, set off on the front foot and hopefully it's a question on the day they can't answer

Hear their shout, hear their roar
They've probably had a barrel of ale and much, much more
Hooray, hooray, hooray, yeah

Of all the players, in all the positions, to lose - fuck.

Plenty options offered and I just know that Jackie will use the most suitable for each game Conor's out.

Onyhow, what's Jiri Lenko doing?

Roberts' a player for highlights only cos he only plays for about ten minutes. I'd be more concerned if Boyle was playing, the fastest headless chicken I've ever seen.

Re: Townsend Out

Really hope that with all this restructuring at board level, bringing in general managers and other new positions etc, we are not doing this at the detriment to the playing side.

How we can have one left back and essentially two strikers I do not know. Yes we have 'back-up' but no one wants to see Dillon or a young untested lad at LB, or Dow up front.

Re: Townsend Out

McNamara has had a year to get another Left Back in.Robertson had to play all last season with no proper cover either.

Piss poor management and i can't help but feel Houston would have copped a lot more flak before now if it was still him in the hotseat.Jackie gets cut a lot of slack by our fans imo.

Re: Townsend Out

in the U20's derby i'm sure we played a left midfielder at left back, i thought at the time that this shows a need to get another left back at the club. Players who can "do a job" in another position are not the answer, especially in a speciallist position.

Correct mate.

Scott Smith an attacking midfielder played LB and according to Bugsy had a torrid time there.

How is that helping the kid ?What's he learning playing there ?Just denting his confidence.

TEK, he got roasted for most of the game, positionally naive  because not a left back, would not have helped his development at all.

Re: Townsend Out

Wow, this is a right kick in the nuts, he was coming on very well too.

I still can't believe we've only had one left back at any given time in the last 15 months, everyone knew Andy would leave this summer, it's u forgiveable that there was not a clear replacement in place before we got Townsend in on loan.

I know United fans love having money in the bank but £250k to Inverness for Shinnie would have been a great piece of Business in June, with Townsend then the back up.

FWIW Stevie Campbell, going by his ZONE interview, believes it's good to play out of position to appreciate it from another perspective.

Paraphrased, but it was something like that.

Suppose it's a good way to test the young players, might unearth a total gem. Imagine if Heggie had never been tried out at centre half!
