Tek Towers 'Ultimate 80's Movie' - Grand Final

This is it, the moment we have been waiting for (or I have at least), the last game in the competition!

The last semi-final saw Back to the Future progressing, as we said a fond farewell to three great comedies, Airplane!, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, which has probably the plucky underdog of the competition, having went further than anticipated, and only two votes short of making the final, Party on Dudes!

Tek Towers 'Ultimate 80's Movie' Grand Final

Monkey? MONKEY! I'm a fucking Gorilla, you clown!

Released: 1983
Director: John Landis
Domestic Box Office: $90'400'000
Trivia: In 2010, as part of the Wall Street Transparency and Accountability Act, which was to regulate financial markets, a rule was included which barred anyone from using secret inside information to corner markets, similar to what the Duke brothers tried to do in the movie. Since the movie inspired this rule, it has since become known as the Eddie Murphy rule.

Hee hee hee! "Get her!". That was your whole plan, huh, "get her". Very scientific.

Director: Ivan Reitman
Domestic Box Office: $229'242'989
Trivia: In Dan Aykroyd's original script, the story was going to take place in the future and that there would be teams of Ghostbusters like there are paramedics and firefighters (thus explaining basing the Ghostbusters HQ in a firehouse). According to director Ivan Reitman, such a film would cost "at least $300 million in 1984 dollars". So Harold Ramis was brought in to rewrite the script and bring it into modern times.

There's that word again. "Heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?

Released: 1985
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Domestic Box Office: $197'902'294
Trivia: Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown) stated that he always wanted to do one more movie, in which Marty and Doc time-travel back to Ancient Rome.

Re: Tek Towers 'Ultimate 80's Movie' - Grand Final

It's been real fun, and a pleasure to do this competition for the forum, and to give Tek a wee bit of rest.

The competition is only as good as the people who contribute, so thank you very much to everyone that has participated and voted in this one, I really appriciate it, it really makes a difference

I will hand the baton over to someone else who fancies a shot of doing another competition, or hand it back to Tek, I need a wee break now myself .

Maybe sometime in the future there will be enough interest in doing a Tek Towers 'Ultimate 90's Movie' Competition, I would be down for that!

Thanks again people!

Back to the Future

i've seen probably 300 times and can probably quote it word for word whilst watching.

Love Trading places that was a close second , Ghostbusters wouldn't have got near a top100 of films for me.

Oh, what came of the things we once believed?

One last bit of 80's movie trivia for you, but John Hughes who wrote National Lampoons Vacation, Home Alone, and who both wrote and directed Planes, Trains..., Weird Science, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, Pretty in Pink etc. used a pseudonym for some of his 'weaker' material that he wrote, e.g the Beethoven films (the one with the dog!), Maid in Manhattan and Drillbit Taylor.

His Pseudonyms name... Edmond Dantes.
