This post is directed straight at the Thompson family. I have been a united supporter for 50 years. At one point in my life I had a direct link to the club through a relative who was vice chairman to Mr McLean . Throughout my lifetime commitment to utd I cannot recall a period when the "club" have been so far removed from the fans . Mr Thompson, excuse the spelling if wrong, please remember that without the fans you have no club ? I beseech you to break your silence as to recent events. If you want to break your ties with the club I love , then say so , and I , and many like minded fans, would then know where we stand and the possibility of a fans buy-out may become a reality.

Unfortunately i realised a few months back DA that Stephen Thompson will no longer direct the fans in any great capacity.
He has taken the criticism of AT/FED to heart and has backed away into a corner.
A very bad decision. He IS the face of Dundee United yet is either hiding,in the huff,or just no bothered about the fans perception of him.
Neither of the above is good news for club/supporters relationship.
There's no doubt in my mind that the club's failure to communicate well and openly wrt finances and player sales has caused a rift between the board and fans.
I saw ST walking up to Tannadice from his car last Sunday - puss tripping him....no eye contact with fans...looked like he'd rather have been anywhere else tbh.
Fans it has to be said blanked him too.
From what I here from a reliable source he's not the easiest person to get on with at the club and the suspicion that he's taken the huff seems to fit in with that.
I've defended him in general over the running and financing of the club but the current situation needs sorting and the club needs leadership not silence.

Responding to the question in your thread title, I think the answer is still yes.
More difficult to respond directly to the content of your post.

We are a small club that folk go to watch with their families

I think the problem is that the term "family club" is so vague and meaningless that it makes answering the question impossible.

Spot on.
Join the (insert any club) family
It doesn't mean anything

I'm not really sure why ST being silent means the club is no longer a family club. Does the lack of communication from him make match day unwelcoming for families?
As for the McLean days, they were hardly the most transparent in the clubs history

I'd say we were a 'family club'.
My point about ST's silence wasn't really related to the question the OP posed in the thread title tbh.More a reply to his opening post.

What has happened Tek to make us no longer a family club?
Maybe my definition of a family club as being a family friendly club is wrong?

As i said...i would say we WERE a 'family club'.
But i also do think ST's silence has damaged soewhat the relationship between the club and 'some' of the support (more the hardcore supporters FED/AT etc) rather than your man on the street.

The thing is, most of us have absolutely no idea what goes on behind the scenes at Tannadice and how family oriented it is for the players. It could well be and we'd never know.

If we 'were', when was that and when did that change?

You have misread what i meant Creme tangerine (i might have worded it poorly).
But for clarity i think we are still a 'family club'.
