McNamara

I've been thinking about him and his compatriots and I've come to the conclusion that they are actually worse than I thought at the end of last season.

Whilst there he been some tremendous signings - eg Andy Robertson, Ciftci, there have been some complete horror stories - eg Anier, and moreso some others that we have paid for that are causing concern - Telfer is nowhere near worth his £200k price tag, Murray did not look like a player yesterday despite putting a lot of effort in, Bilate being hooked at half time due to feeling his hammycost us in the region of £50k and £150k panic buy Robbie Muirhead who isn't getting much of a look in.

Jackie's inability to change tactically during a game is more and more worrying as time goes on.

Yesterday, some of the players looked ridiculously unfit - yes, I'm looking at you Erskine.

The team came out after half time looking like they had just been deflated by the half time team talk.

I've heard John Souttar is not signing a new contract because of Jackie.  I hope that this is not the case with Harry Souttar too.

Allegedly some players were at the chairmans door last season complaining about the quality of training that they were getting.

I still don't know what Donnelly, Jackson or Hinchcliffe do.  Infact I'm still a big bit concerned that a manager who gets a percentage of any player sale has an ex agent as a member of his coaching team.  Coincidence?

How is these guys still in a job.  There should have been a parting of the ways at the end of last season.

I also have in the back of my mind the stories that he spat the dummy out and acted like a petulant kid when things went against him when he played at Aberdeen.  Is he doing the same here?  I hope not, but some of the performances since January make me wonder just how much of a shit he is giving.

Re: McNamara

Macho if things aren't any better in a months time then I'll be quoting this as a great post.  I'm reserving judgement for now.  We weren't great yesterday but at the same time, we should've been at least one up at half time.  Bilate scores and the whole complexion of our players and fans changes completely.  I also believe that the team out there can play a lot better, even under Jackie.  It took a fortunate goal to beat us and tbh, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought the game was petering out to a 0-0 which, wouldn't have been a bad result. However, the poor second halves is something that needs to be addressed pronto.

Re: McNamara

I think McNamara's signings overall have been good. His signing policy is to sign players either from lower leagues or who have lost their way a bit. Naturally there will be ones that don't work out. Not for any manager in history is every signing a success. Also, more than a bit early to be writing off Murray, Muirhead and Telfer.

McNamara was brought in because United wanted a manager who could develop talent that could be sold on to bring down the debt whilst remaining competitive on the park. He's certainly brought down the debt. Does he have a team that will be competitive on the park? Well, it's a completely new team this season so it's way too early to judge. We've watched one match against easily the second best team in the league who have a settled squad, very little changed from last season, and a manager whose budget dwarves McNamara's. I'll not be judging them on that.

Don't get me wrong, he's not perfect. He has his faults and I do have reservations about him. But I think he's doing a pretty good job. And I think he deserves the opportunity to re-build the squad with our full support behind him.

Re: McNamara

Ill disagree with your bit on Erskine i thought he looked fitter than usual and lasted to about 75 mins instead of his usual 60 before looking fucked.
After that was like a man down

Re: McNamara

LAO, I should have said that I didn't think that yesterday was a bad performnce either and that I think we were hard done by, but at points it was obvious that Murray is not a good enough player (yet?) to be a lone striker and that we should have been playing him and Bodul upfront.  Erskine should have been off earlier as he was breathing out his backside.  You're right, it was a very lucky goal and I felt hard done by at the end of the game.  I just couldn't see how Jackie was going to be able to change things as we have a system with the players to suit (to a degree - still missing a couple of natural wingers) but we don't have options to mix it up.

Trap 6, I'm definitely not writing off Telfer and Muirhead yet.  I see potential in them.  Murray concerns me to a certain extent though.  Re the debt reduction, whilst we have reduced the debt, Gauld, Armstrong and GMS were all at the club before McNamara, so I won't be giving him credit in full for that.  Robertson was one in a million and Ciftci was definitely one of Jackies.  I also have concerns about just how much the debt has been reduced by in comparison to how much we have brought in, but that's another topic altogether.

Yeah, he might  been a bit fitter but he was still out of the game after 70/75 minutes or so.  A disgrace for a professional footballer at the start of the season.

Re: McNamara

I quite like Muirhead, but as a centre forward, not out wide. I was baffled as to why he didn't get on yesterday especially at half time to keep a focal point to the attack and, in the knowledge that he gave their back 4 a really hard time in the game at Tannadice last season.  He must've had a really pish pre-season to have fallen that far down the pecking order.
