Its not going to take teams long to work out that if you press Souttar quickly he's going to make mistakes or play poor passes; exactly the same as when he played at the back. The laddie is an incredible talent, but he just doesn't seem to be able to realise or, doesn't want to realise that the game doesn't always get played at the pace he wants it to be played. Teams are not going to just stand back and admire him.

You are very right bud.
He will benefit though by playing beside a better midfielder. He pings fae over confident to unsure.
He has the talent to replicate and learn, feed of a good midfielder.

I'm his biggest fan. He was bad today, game passed him by.
Thought he, telfer and Rankin were poor.

Agree. Passenger.
Telfer has a lot to prove. We paid over 200k for him, I hope he starts to repay it.

Typical nonsense from fans heaping pressure on young lads, Telfer should not be in the team but the chairman refuses to give the investment for proper established first team players
Our starting 11 contained 6 players 21 and under......that is a fucking joke

I'm prepared to wait on Telfer. He surprised me today with some of his passes and play under pressure. Thought that'd be his strength honestly. Wasnt.
Souttar was bad today. I'm a big fan of the lad, nothing to do with pressure. He'll be better.

I thought he was very good first 20 - everything good went through him. I don't think he touched the ball for the remainder of the first half though.

Said it on Mad 18 months ago when pleading for him to be played in centre mid that he could not play centre half until he could head the ball AND that he needed to act quicker to danger. He sadly failed on both those counts today too. I don't want to be too hard on him, but there was one obvious one in the first half where he failed to go in for a header at all. And what is it with the scoopy passes. I've never seen anyone pass a ball like that?

Looked like he was thinking elsewhere
chippy up lackadaisical passes and all round 'laissez faire' attitude.
No hunger -ended up with last ditch type tackle to not lose possession.
Offline
Well if he was "thinking elsewhere" let him go and see how good he ACTUALLY is.
See how far he goes eh.

Boy oozes ability, but everything i have seen of him this pre season and today and seeing him on the zone, he looks like he couldn't give a fuck...might be harsh, but just my feeling

I can't disagree with that.

Said it before but that 'World Cup' pass near the end.
Was actually 0-0 at the time and we had been under the fucking cosh for about 20 minutes ..they make one mistake,we break and he fucking goes and thinks he's Xavi.
He oozes classes but strikes me as believing his own hype a bit at the mo.Must work hard as well.
He was chasing shadows towards the end and looked unfit to me.
Meanwhile Willo who's about 15 years older is running about till the last whistle barking orders and organising,oh and retaining the ball very well.He would do well to watch that performance and learn from it tbh.
p.s. i'm loathe to criticise young players, particulary John Souttar who i think is a real talent.I was just dissapointed in his desire a bit today more than anything.

Looks like the managers lost a part of the dressing room, Souttars not happy that's for sure.

Souttar doesn't like the manager allegedly. Knocked back two offers. One that would make him our biggest earner.

'Laissez faire'
Magic. Higher History coming in handy eh?
According to last night's tully will be signing new deal - "it's understood that progress has been made and an announcement could be close"

this would make me very happy, fingers crossed.
Just one thing for all those critical of Souttar on Saturday... it wasnt his best game by a long shot but f uck me does he offer REAL & GENUINE protection for that back 4. So much so that at times we pushed Rankin (who was ineffective everywhere) up the park in a 4 1 4 1 formation.
We had generally 2 lads playing in front of that back 4 last year offering next to no protection in my opinion. I think other than Souttar obviously having the talent to jump start an attack, he will be one of the big reasons we concede less goals this year.
He did look off on Saturday, will give you that.

Mostly agree, apart from Rankin being 'ineffective everywhere'.
Felt Rankin was missed when he was subbied, but at the same time Aberdeen got stronger with their subs.

Off topic slightly but why does Ranks ALWAYS look a shade orange? Never seen him without a tan. Is he just always that sheded?
