I think that goal last night might change Wigan's mind about keeping him OR might change McKay's mind about staying and fighting for his place....we'll see i guess, but my gut feeling is not an optimistic one tonight.

The Chairman just cant win here. Numerous posts over the last few months have been critisizing him for running the club at a loss now he is being abused for trying to get the best deal for the club.

Without going totally off topic here trasfer fees being paid to us are not the reason people have questioned the running of the club, thats another issue altogether, going back on topic, we aint exactly short of a quid or two so why fuck about with insulting bids ?
Think it has to be said that Thompson/Club are the first to make noises when clubs come in and give us lowball offers (see Sheff Utd/GMS), yet we expect to pry Mckay away from Wigan for less than 6 figures? righto.
It was the same with Allan. The figure we were going to pay was ridiculous. I said to ST your not going to get him for that. His response was it's a fair price for a 1st division player.

Don't think ST's reputation for driving a hard bargain will go very far with Wigan Athletic though. Have to come in with a significantly improved best and final scenario id think.

As above BH i think it might not come down to ST.
Think Wigan or McKay might have a 'change of heart'.That's just my gut feeling though.
If we really are set on him just go out and pay what they want before someone else does though.
Laddies a decent player at our level, though personally i think there are freebies out there who were overlooking.
Courier reporting 2nd bid was "in excess of £100k" and that "are expected to make a 3rd bid"

Dundee United might be interested in snagging Wigan striker Billy McKay, but the club’s manager says that he could still have a future at the DW stadium.Gary Caldwell praised the player for his goal on Tuesday night in a friendly against Altrincham, after a season where he only made nine appearances and couldn’t find the back of the net.Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Caldwell said: “Billy’s a goalscorer, and showed his ability in front of goal again on Tuesday.“If he continues to play like that and score goals like that, then of course he’s going to have a future at the club.”He added: “Goalscorers are worth their weight in gold, and I don’t think you can ever have too many of them. We need that competition amongst the strikers, and Billy did himself no harm with the way he performed.” Dundee United have already had two bids for the striker rejected, and it’s thought they are due to make a third attempt to sign the former ICT player.

Nae doubt we're haggling over about 20k of a difference, usual embarrassing penny pinching. Fair enough trying to get a good deal for the club, but when we've increasingly demanded that clubs pay us the right price for our players you'd think we would dae the same.
Pay the going rate and his goals will lift us up the table and we'll get the money back on him through that anyway. Before undoubtedly selling um.
Given that Wigan payed £150k can't see them taking less (and can't see why we'd bother offering less).
One hopeful thing was the early reports said he wanted back to Scotland - have a feeling we'll end up paying £200k and get him.

I doubt we will go as high as £200k for Mckay

Looks to me like ST in a panic to appease fans - I'm hoping we only go to £200k

Unless we sign a proven striker and a creative midfielder we need to hope we dont go down
The main horror movie was Dundee United home and away since February, notthing comical about that
