Defender on trial

Re: Defender on trial

Jackie said last night on Azone that he we had the Italian boy on trial and were looking to add another defender. If there is a defender meeting us in Holland wonder what the chances are its one of Van Hooijdonks men.

wow a 20 year old defender.. shock. Although looked like he was highly rated when he was younger.

Re: Defender on trial

It's inevitable that whoever we sign to provide depth and cover for the defence will be a young guy. But he has some experience.

Re: Defender on trial

May need him, Cal Morris not fit for the trip.

Hope it's not a thigh injury or it could be the new Bilate hammy.

Pates not travelled either, some will be gutted.

Re: Defender on trial

Spoke to a guy I know from the Livi management team earlier, seems to rate him pretty highly.

Re: Defender on trial

I would have thought with over 9 million pounds accrued through transfers in one year we should be in a position to sign some of the best out of contract players in this country. Its hard to take watching smaller clubs like Ross County and Dundee Fc signing loads of players and all we have done is sign 1 and take on a couple of trialists.

Assume the "one year" is a typo?

It's probably £8m in the last four/five years which unsurprisingly hasn't cleared the £10m loan debt we started the decade with.

Still if your keen on Ross County's signings maybe they could fork out some of the Ciftci fee and get Brian Graham back

Its it just a bad dream or am i back on Mad?.Ross County have strengthened IMO and we are weaker by far and the last time i remember us playing them at Tannadice they played us off the park.

Just pulling your chain a wee bit with the Brian Graham thing - I was at the county match and yeah it was a pretty horrible afternoon and we were well beat.

More concerned with the transfer income bit of what you said (and have been banging on a bit on here on that topic so apologies to anyone who thinks the needles got stuck).

No probs with anyone criticising the board but it doesn't help when wildly inaccurate figures regarding transfer income and debt are being bandied about - especially as accurate info on the subject is available online.

That's a real shame regrading Pates ®

Re: Defender on trial

Back on topic, here's a wee video interview of Harry Redknapp talking briefly about him (Donaldson) after he signed him for QPR last year.

(About 1 minute in)

Re: Defender on trial

How wildy inaccurate is this then?,Dundee United have made more money in the transfer market than every other club in Scotland put together in the past year bar Celtic?.Since the season's end we have now lost 11 players brought in 1 and a couple of boys on trial.

Scarpia, you're doing a sterling job cutting through the myth and misinformation.

Keep it up!

Gunboat, don't get me wrong, we need to get players in and there are areas of the side where we do need more experience, no argument from me there.

We'd be going well o/t on this thread though if we get into a back and forth on the finance though - hope to put something up on the transfer/debt thing shortly and no probe continuing discussion there or on a more appropriate thread.

Good man.

Let's try and keep this thread just on the trialist please gents

Scarpia has a seperate thread were he has attempted to shed some light on the transfer income/s.

Pates and Ranks are copywrited terms.

Re: Defender on trial

Just this morning it's been announced Coll Donaldson's QPR contract has been ripped up by 'mutual consent'.

Looks very likely this could pave the way for him signing for Utd (assuming he shows up well in Holland).

Confirmed it's thigh, so Coll can step into the breach.

Ot but  thread has died off and I need to correct something I said above.

I quoted a debt figure of £10m - this is wildly wrong and the correct figure at max is £6.5m.

Doubly embarrassing as I then went on to pontificate about the need for accuracy.

So a general apology to all and a personal one to Gunboat.
