Smashing team. Smashing weather.

Well worth the equivalent of three Peroni's.

I'm sure those who have braved the weather and forked out £10 to watch a team made up of first teasers & development squad players will be over the moon to see that line up.

The trialist is supposedly Guido Gomez.

An Italian of Argentine descent who plays in Seria C.

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

2 nil Arbroath final score. Lichties subby just on the park scores their 2nd.

1st half
Arbroath had too much possession. We gave them the ba too much mostly thru poor and loose passing. We also sat too much of the 1st half in our own half, maintaining possession right enough but just no going anyplace with it. There was a period of about 15 minutes when Murray never got a touch of the ball. 1 good nearie by Murray just past the post tho. Thats aboot it for the 1st half.

2nd half
Jordan Moore struggled 1st half, and was subbed at half time by Brad Smith.
We were better 2nd half, but again we sat too much in our own half trying to keep possession, but no going anywhere. There was another period of 10 minutes when Murray never touched the ball, and he unfortuntely missed a sitter.

Our best players were nos 4, 5, 7 and 8 the whole game. No. 8 - think it was Scott Lochhead. was the MOTM for me. Best player on the park by far, followed closely by No. 7 who had the most number of attempts on goal.  Apologies for not being able to put names to these some of these laddies. If somebody could put names to numbers please do.

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

Locheed will be a player for us, same as big Harry, the rest were very unimpressive apart fae them and the trialist who looks tidy on the ball

As for Justin Johnston, holy fuck !!!!

I love watching United on arabzone...

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

Utd weren't up to much but still had about half a dozen chances compared to Arbroath who only had a couple. Their first goal wasn't really a chance, Harry Souttar won a header from a corner and their boy caught it flush on the volley from the edge of the box. Their second was a breakaway late on.

Murray was very isolated and missed two sitters when through both times. Jordan Moore did the same in the first minute. Moore sadly also looks about 1 and a half stone overweight (and thats being generous) and was subbied at half time after trying to play as a number 10.

The Italian boy looked good in flashes but was not up to much tracking back and was lightweight. He was unlucky with a couple of chances second half but was also guilty of being greedy late on.

Justin Johnston was hopeless. His passing was gash and a hospital pass to Euan Spark resulted in a really bad collision that Spark did well to recover from.

Who is 1st team ready? Jamie Robson for me is the only one who looks like he could go in and do well straight away at left back. He's been our best player by far any time I've seen the u20s.

Scott Smith looks not bad too and does well when he commits people but tbh is not any better than we have.

Harry Souttar clearly has lots of potential but is probably not ready yet.

Zwick was decent for the most part and looks better than the Polish boy.

One final thought. Thats a few times I've seen the development squad and have felt each time they look incredibly rigid in the way they play and as a result have no goalthreat. There is no real freedom to what they do and most of them look like they could do with the tactical straightjacket getting removed.

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

Thought harry souttar done alright (hes huge) and the no.14 that came on in the 2nd half were 1 of the few plus points there 1st goal was a cracker keeper had no chance, biggest problem from tonights performance wayward passes and when we had possession it was very negative imho of course

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

Agreed Homer. We looked better when we changed to a diamond midfield with the Italian boy at the top. Adayemo went up front with Murray and did well. We actually got well on top for about 10-15 minutes but then they scored against the run of play.

The boy Lockhead was crap first half and continually gave the ball away but tbf looked better second half and started threading some clever balls through although nobody was taking advantage.

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

I thought Spark looked good. The whole defence did ok in the 80 minutes I stayed for, but Spark stood out.

Jordan Moore won't make it. We've only got him on the books for another season and I'd be surprised if he's in the sort of condition to play first team football by the time the season is up. It's understandable that his stamina and fitness aren't up to scratch but ultimately we need players who are ready.

Souttar stood out. Literally as well.

Won everything and actually looked comfortable on the ball.

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

I thought the two at the back were good, as was Robson. What size young Harry is! Surely he can't have any growing left in him?

Also Smith and Lockheed both looked excellent.

The trialist definitely had something about him, would be interesting to see how he fared in a higher standard of game.

Re: Arbroath v Utd - Tuesday 7th July (Forfarshire Cup)

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party.  I thought a few of the boys looked promising at dev level but how that would translate to first team is another matter.  Thought Zwick looked decent on the whole despite the score line, Robson, Lochead, Spark all had promising moments and wouldn't rule the trialist out just yet, jury's still out on that one.  Had been looking forward to seeing Johnson again but got to admit I was disappointed, looked a bit lost and not fit enough.  Would still like to see Moore do well but as others have alluded to, looks miles off at the moment.  Was disappointed Murray didn't do more, will need to step it up to have any chance of success in the first team.  Always good to see the young boys though and definitely plenty prospects to watch out for.
