A dug called Toby, old dear got him when she fell pregnant with me so had him all my days & he died day before my 14th birthday, broke my heart at the time, he was a top mutt.

Only ever had fish, I had one of them (Luggy) for around 9 years.

His brother (Davie, after Dodds) died age 5 and Hamish only lived 6 months (carnival fish)

Mick & Keef died within hours of each other in a tropical day in August.

First named pet was a tortoise called Ralph.
He crawled out of his hibernation box of hay, escaped and we found him after the snow melted.

Exact same thing happened with mine.

Except we never found her again.Folk laugh and say how can a tortoise 'run-away'?

Seems it's more common that i thought lol.

first pet was a dog i got as an xmas present around 1987 called it mac after jim mclean it died after getting hit by a car a few months after motherwell beat us in 91 final, then never had a pet again up until two years ago got another dog a yorkie terrier and again called it mac after sir jim

First pet that was for me, that I can remember, was a cat that I called Gizmo, named after said character from the movie Gremlins when I was about 6.

It was a braw wee thing, used to follow me everywhere. Sadly got run over when it got spooked, and bolted in front of a car, by one of my brother's friends right in front of me. Only had Gizmo for a couple of years

Also had a cat called Gizmo Sieb, named for the same reason & also got run over in front of me when I was only about 10, was devastated 😢

Holy shit, a bunch of lucky people we have on here huh?

I had two goldfish for years, tangy and terror, sounds like I'm exaggerating but I'm sure we had them for near 10 years, anyway got a goldfish from the carnival and put it in its bag in the water with the other two overnight to acclimatise or some shit, the carny fish was riddled and killed Tangy and Terror, I was raging and flushed it away live.

Also fed a stray cat for years that I called Ben, my mum used to go mental when I brought it in the flat.

Also fed the doos on my window sill until my old man got a letter of complaint from the council housing.

A few years ago we took two Guinea pigs from my sister in law who was moving away, my girls called them Squeak and Woof.

Woof developed some major condition that required me to rub cream on his eye and give him eye drops, turned out he had a tumour and required palliative care!

Ended up costing me a fortune in vets fees and also had to out them into a boarding house for pets when we went on holiday. Came back from France to find Woof in a shoe box in the wummins freezer and had to bury him in the garden, Squeak got sent to my sister.

I feel like I need to reiterate that these were fucking Guinea pigs.

A right little Dr Doolittle me. My bairns want a puppy, kitten and rabbit respectively just now but have been told to bolt.

I know you maybe didn't mean this post to be funny but I have to confess it did make me laugh a wee bit - don't hate me!! Comedy factor purely in the way you told it, not the actual circumstances themselves....

Early 70s a budgie called "Ringo".

He was totally my pal. Flew to me instantly, knew when I was coming hame fae skill, spoke, did tricks and party pieces - everything.

Best bird I've ever had!!!

Now I think I'm just gonna buy me a pet Groundhog and call it "Celtic"
