lets be honest

Here... How many posters on here are 100% happy with the squad we have going into the coming season?

Not me and very worried.

Our team is full of inconsistant young players. A handfull of experianced lads that never set the hesther alight fully in the past 6 months. 3 keepers with very little rop league experiance and strikers who havent done anything for us since signing.

Eh'm the same. Have faith in the young anes coming good eventually  but not everyone of them in one season, just isna gonna happen. Going the same way as Hibs as this rate. Squad, and manager,  in my opinion, no good enough.

Re: lets be honest

I have the absolute fear for this season mate. I totally agree wi what your saying. I just can't understand how others can't see it either.

Re: lets be honest

Using Hibs as the doomsday scenario does not make sense. Hibs built an excellent stadium and have the best (outside Rangers & Celtic) training ground in Scotland. It was a full 5 years after the sales that Butcher arrived and took them down. Being compared to Hearts Rangers or the double admins is what is to be avoided, Hibs will be back with their reputation intact, not as  cheats.

Yes but after having a cup winning squad and the best young talent in the country they were soon on a very slippery slope mate.

Was no surprise really when they eventually went down.Had been coming for awhile.

I can't be alone in fearing we're going the same way.

P. S. They're now also heavily in debt again.

Aye it was 5 years before they went down, of which they were floundering and mediocre for about 4 of those years. I wasn't talking about us getting relegated per say. Just going from "top 4" to bottom six pish.

Re: lets be honest

I don't think anyone's ever 100% happy with the squad going into a new season. Certainly not the fans. I can clearly remember the same stuff being said the season before last, specifically about Robertson. Loads of posters on Mad were up in arms that McNamara was going into the new season with an inexperienced youngster at left back.

A lot of people seem to be wilfully ignorant of the fact that there IS experience in the squad. McGowan, Dixon, Paton, Rankin, Dillon and Erskine are all experienced players. Just behind that you have Morris, Souttar and Anier who are all getting towards a decent age or number of games at this level.

On any given game, you can expect those players to make up more than half of the starting XI.

Now Ciftci has gone, this is a completely new team. The manager is rebuilding and in my opinion, he's doing it the right way. Rather than having 'the fear' about the coming season, I'm actually quite excited to see how the next generation - Fraser, Telfer, Connolly, Muirhead, Durnan, Murray, Spittal, Smith, Sparke, Coote - get on.

Re: lets be honest

If Hibs is the 'Doomsday scenario' BTW, Motherwell is a more realistic example perhaps?

Despite back to back runner up finishes they almost got relegated after failing to replace the talent like Ruddy, Murphy, Humphrey's etc who departed.

Re: lets be honest

GK - McCallum
RB - McGowan
LB - Dixon
CB - Durnan
CB - Morris
DM - Souttar
DM - Rankin
LAM - Erskine
CAM - Fraser
RAM - Dow
FW - Bilate

Bench - Zwick, Dillon, Paton, Connolly, Spittal, Telfer, Muirhead

To suggest that squad will be anywhere near relegation is utter garbage IMO.

Hope you are proven right mate but just can't see it not happening. Will be a massive struggle to make the top six at least IMO

Re: lets be honest

Tek Motherwell is a realistic comparison, compare the money they got for their departing "stars" with Utd. So hopefully there is no debate ST has got a few excellent deals. Remember you are now an optimist.

That team will win its fair share of games no doubt, but can it sustain any sort of push for top 6 never mind Europe or a cup run???

Will it be able to change our awful away form and our habit of capitulating when we lose a goal, even when we are in a comfortable winning position?

It's NEVER a massive struggle to get into top six in the SPL mate. Not for any club. If you're good enough to stay up, you're good enough to get into the top 6. There's very little between the clubs at that end of the table.

Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts are stick ons for top 6 IMO. Beyond that, it's an open field. FWIW, I think United will end up in the top 6. But, if McNamara got the team playing good football and you could see that he was building something good again, I'd accept the inconsistency that comes with that. I doubt some others would though.

Re: lets be honest

FEAR?  I dont envisage a vintage season, however fear was hearing that UTD new signings were Jamie Buchan, Hasney Aljofree, Neal Heaney & 600,000 Danny bloody Griffen.  We then lost the 1st 2 and signed Attangana and Tchami. Show a bit of backbone and get behind the team.

Re: lets be honest

Beharder.. i dont think people are not gettimg behind the team people are very concerned that we have let alot of boys go and havnt strenthened in areas already needing strenthened before boys went. People want this club to do as good as we could.

Re: lets be honest

I'll support the team no matter what, i'm just concerned that we have let go alot of players and only replaced them with one. I just feel we lack experience, partically in goal and at CB.

Yes FEAR. Fear of what we had and what has replaced them, which up to now is fuck all ! I'll be there week in week out but seriously concerned at what we have left in the squad, you cannot honestly be happy with the current pool of players surely ?

Bowers we are agreed on we all want the best for the terrors. I like to look for positives, some like to dwell on negatives.

Re: lets be honest

Do we want good players or experienced players?

We had experience last season in those positions - Rado and Fojut - and I thought they were both shite TBH.

I doubt more than a handful of United fans have ever seen any of our goalies or Durnan play more than once. Maybe we should wait and see how they fare before deciding we need more experienced players than them.

We want good we want youth we want experiancr we want a mix of the 3.. do we currently and hoesntly have that at the club to go a season?

As i said we needed to strenthen certain areas last season goalkeeper and defence included in them areas. We have let go our keeper and are happy to go with 3 youth keepers who nevee got a chance last season even when rado was throwing wobblers big time.

That's making an assessment based on something you haven't seen, rather than waiting until you have seen it.

As for your mix of good, youth and experience - I completely agree. See my post further up, I believe we do have that.
