in the record today as well. IF he does sign it's another kick in the teeth for the fans considering club said they wouldn't sell to celtic again.
No it isn't a kick in the teeth and to suggest it is smacks of trouble making.
What are our realistic options in this scenario.
Bearing in mind we market ourselves as a club to progress your career,.
We are dealing with a very temperamental player going into the last year of his contract.
He has refused an extension.
He has knocked back the other team bidding for him despite us accepting.
We live in the era of player power.
What would you do here? What's the great way out of this? I'd genuinely be delighted to hear an alternative.
yes it is a kick in the teeth. If the club say they aren't going to sell to celtic then they can't sell. Otherwise what's the point of saying it. More bullshit from the club. Only people that are causing trouble are the ones that come out with statements like that in the first place.
Your correct we do live in an era of player power but maybe it's time clubs reversed that

Just had a bit of an epiphany there.
Screw nadir ciftci. He comes with more baggage than I've ever seen before in any player. He plays when he wants, causes no end of issues and when it came to the crunch, he's engineering a move away when he could have done a lot better by the club. The fans/club have been unswithering in their support for him and I don't think he is showing us any respect.
Get him out the club and next time he comes to Tannadice, I hope durnan/morris stick him on his arse

I wouldn't have so much of a problem with losing Nadir as he clearly wants to go,though it does Gaul me, if I knew the money, however much we are actually left with, was going to go towards strengthening the team, that's not going to happen according to Jackie? That's a piss take.

It's pointless trying to keep him as he clearly wants to go to Celtic. The best thing the Club can do now IMO is get the best possible price then use what's left over after everyone gets their cut to reinvest in the team & strengthen. Sadly no matter what they do, not everyone will be happy as there's folk of the opinion don't sell to Celtic at any cost, others saying get him away etc but at least if any cash is used to benefit the team it should help to appease any reasonable fans. Of course there will always be the minority who greet it's wrong whatever route the Club take. To sell and not then replace will be a massive mistake IMO though, really really hope that doesn't happen although think the harsh reality is that it most likely will.

Houston you are right there Ciftci will sign for who he wants and rightly so. All United should be concerned with is that he goes to the highest bidder, if that is Celtic so be it. If we were to sell a player to a rival team such as Aberdeen, Hearts or St Johnstone that would be unwise. Celtic will finish 30+ points ahead of us next season whether we sell them Ciftci or not.

You never answered my question.
This is due to the fact that there is no alternative other than to get the most money possible for any of our players. We tried selling him to the other bidder, we refused 2 of their bids. Saying we wouldn't sell was a bluff, Celtic, if they come back with another bid will call it.
A sad fact, but a fact nonetheless.
To complain about the club for doing this is nothing short of petty point scoring.
Your suggestion that the clubs should take back the power is nonsense and un-enforceable. Football is a business now and as such employment laws are in place along with basic supply and demand.
Any other suggestions?
It looks like the majority of fans on this forum accept it for what it is and not the 'kick in the teeth' you are claiming it is.

I would like to see a pacy winger.
That was the main problem once we sold GMS and Armstrong, no pace.
I think Scott Fraser will become a regular this season - very Armstrong - sequel and loves a double drag back (back me up bugsy)
We will also have souttar in there - we only seen him there for a few games and what a difference he made.
All the calls for an experienced goali - I just want a good goalie, don't care if they are experienced or not. Look at the boy Bain across the road - how much experience did he have before last year? How old was hamish when he made his debut?
Main concern is the defence, we have decent defenders and have had decent ones, our manager just can't organize them. I don't see any reason to think that will change this year
Absolutely on the double drag back but he's using it less now.

I've been thinking about the 'no more sales to Celtic' statement. I think it was a good sentiment from the chairman, but probably a bit ill-thought out.
Should Celtic match Wigan's bid, and Ciftci wants to go, it's a bit unfair of United to knock it back just because they've already sold a couple of players to them. That's hardly Ciftci's fault. To deny him the move he wants is bad form imo.
Unfortunately the chairman has painted himself into a corner. He must be praying for that Ajax bid to materialise.

The correct statement is "We do not WANT to sell any more players to Celtic!"
After all the fall out and the unsporting behaviour, remarks and nonsense during the 4 game marathon, is it any wonder the Club can't see Celtic far enough. ST's remarks were but a barge pole, hoping to fend off any more attentions from Celtic for a long time, however, both Celtic and Ciftci know the reality of the situation.
Celtic should at last show some honour and pay the true valuation for Ciftci, bearing in mind all the damage that United have suffered from Celtic's previous dealings.

Ajax sold one of their strikers yesterday. Wishful thinking perhaps but who knows...
