Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

He definitely did say he wanted to strengthen squad and had a few targets in mind pretty recently so fuck knows what's changed.  We've a very large squad compared to others numbers wise but that doesn't mean it's good enough.  I'd prefer quality over quantity, think a fair few should go to free up wages and bring in a couple of decent bodies but sadly don't see that happening.  Zero faith in JM at the mo, doesn't seem to have a clue but hoping I'm going to be proved wrong.  Very frustrating though 😔

Just posted that on Twitter.

That is despite him saying on Arabzone 5/6 weeks to Joe Rice that he was looking to strengthen and had 'areas he wanted to strengthen' or words to that effect.

He also said in the Daily Record dated May 25th he wanted the squad to come back 'stronger' and that Nadir Ciftci was influential to the success of the team and the club'.

Now even probably minus him,Fojut,Rado and Butcher he's happy to go with the squad.

I have no trust in the man.He seems to contradict himself constantly and has no real plan for taking us forward.

"winging it" I believe is the term.

I'd say McNamara's probably a bit more to blame than moi.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

using the squad above.......and assuming cftci and souttar stay.... (ho-ho-ho)

Thats a squad of 23 - Of which i'd say 9 are boys with little first team experience- 14 which have decent experience (included the likes of muirhead and souttar in the 14)....

Its not really a big squad.

Breaks down as:

Keeeprs: 3 (Swick not listed on list)
Defenders: 5
Midfielders (def):4
Midfielders (att):7
Forwards:6

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

Tbh reading the Courier interview JM is simply being non-commital and didn't rule out making signings....."If we feel we have to bring someone in then, fine"

And wrt replacing Ciftci..."It depends on what we need and what's available.

No harm in seeing how the squad look in pre season/games and bringing a player or two in if need be (and I think there's scope in his budget).

And no point in jumping the gun until what's happening with Ciftci and Souttar is clear.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

Problem is though Scarpia, each week that passes our options dwindle as players get tied-up elsewhere.

Any roads it really doesn't sound to me like we're gonna sign anyone else.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

It also means any signings will suffer from not having a full pre-season (again).

Look like, feels like and smells like amateur hour at the 'dice.

Fair point, though we have no shortage of players, just a question of quality.

If we add it needs to be better than what we have.

I'm not as despondent as some wrt our squad but we could do with adding a player with real pace in attacking midfield.

Will keep my fingers crossed on that.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

Signing players into August has never been a problem among our support before. Why is it a big deal now?

Because we will get the whole 'no pre-season training' excuse that is like an automated response from this current management team.

Cos we fell to bits losing a winger and a creative midfielder that were not replaced. We still want to see replacements.

We also wanted to see an experienced keeper signing up, that's fucked now though

If ciftci does leave then we need a striker

^^^^^^^

This.

But also because normally it's the last signing or the last 'piece of the jigsaw'.

Currently we need about 3 or 4 good players if we are to see an improvement on last season IMO.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

Some signings are maybe lined up but will only happen when we offload and bank in on Ciftci and or Soapy.

If we sell no more and sign no more i'll join the despair and worry.

I'm obviously worried just now like most but have a feeling more new players will come in. The relaxed attitude coming from within may be a bluff.
As a club we don't want to come across as desperate to sell or buy for financial reasons no matter the motives and we are playing a risky game.
Leaving it late will either work for us or against us.

Time will tell.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

Would selling Ciftci to Celtic be easier to take if we received cash plus a player?

Say £1million plus the boy McGregor? That's what a Celtic friend of mine suggested might happen.

Personally, I'd rather the club held onto Ciftci for the season and lose him for nothing next year. Alternatively, sell to an English team for £1.5 +, but a cash plus a talented player from Celtic would be better than just cash and may be the best option we have at the moment if Ciftci is expressing his interest to join them.

I disagree with this, We have plenty of strikers, some of whom haven't had a chance yet.

The only position I think we need to feel still - even if Nadir leaves - is winger.

We're lacking pace. If we get the ball into the box for Muirhead, we'll score, but it's getting the ball there quickly that's the problem.

Re: United reject bid for Ciftci

I would like to see a pacy winger.
That was the main problem once we sold GMS and Armstrong, no pace.
I think Scott Fraser will become a regular this season - very Armstrong - sequel and loves a double drag back (back me up bugsy    )
We will also have souttar in there - we only seen him there for a few games and what a difference he made.
All the calls for an experienced goali - I just want a good goalie, don't care if they are experienced or not. Look at the boy Bain across the road - how much experience did he have before last year? How old was hamish when he made his debut?
Main concern is the defence, we have decent defenders and have had decent ones, our manager just can't organize them. I don't see any reason to think that will change this year

in the record today as well. IF he does sign it's another kick in the teeth for the fans considering club said they wouldn't sell to celtic again.

No it isn't a kick in the teeth and to suggest it is smacks of trouble making.
What are our realistic options in this scenario.
Bearing in mind we market ourselves as a club to progress your career,.
We are dealing with a very temperamental player going into the last year of his contract.
He has refused an extension.
He has knocked back the other team bidding for him despite us accepting.
We live in the era of player power.

What would you do here? What's the great way out of this? I'd genuinely be delighted to hear an alternative.
