Soapy

Heard from a fairly dependable source last night that Souttar is definitely signing a new deal.

Massive news if true. He's been a revelation in midfield. Like Gauld and Robertson, he's another one destined for the very top IMO.

Re: Soapy

Absolutely. I only know the lad who told me in the passing but he claims to have got the info direct from about as good a source as you can get. I've no reason to doubt him tbh.

Getting Soapy on the ball is so important to United playing good football. It astonishes me that he's still only 18.

Re: Soapy

This is a situation where all the off field accusations, divisions and unrest COULD count against us, as his family obviously want their "wee loon" to develop and prosper.  They have had from February til now, massive concerns about the Civil War in our support.  And having just made the centre mid break through at the end of the season there, they hopefully realise that signing an 18 month extension to his current contract and playing all of this season there and leaving probably next summer would be in his best interests.  That would also increase the chances BOTH boys playing together for us at least once?  Fingers crossed he signs.  With Sporting Lisbon probably about to lose Carvalho their current holding centre mid, could there be a grand masterplan?  Let's hope there is and if he is to wear green and white hoops, it is on the Algarve!  Mon Soapy.  Sign on the dotted line please, you know it makes sense!!!

Re: Soapy

If True. fantastic news - but the sceptic in me says to hold on until its official. However it would be a positive which i've been looking for, for a long time.

To be fair, he and his family seem to have their heads screwed on and won't just chase the first chance of a big payday, .which could ruin his career. A solid season for us would see him in a good place to move on and give united some payback for the development imo.

Now, if we could get the Ciftci thing sorted, all would be good (Though my instinct tells he, he will be sold at the tale end of the summer once the bite thing dies down.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Soapy

Good news if all turns out to be as you say T6. As Tangy says will hold off getting too excited until its official. Fingers crossed.

Re: Soapy

Fingers crossed.

Looking forward to seeing more of Souttar in the team this year. Hopefully see his brother getting in on the action also.

Re: Soapy

Build the whole team around him and Muirhead. Coote needs game time pronto, too.

Re: Soapy

Anyone else starting to think he's not gonna extend?

Offered him the new deal 5 weeks ago now. He's back from holiday.

If he was gonna sign I think he would have.

Just my gut feeling.Really hope I'm wrong though.

Re: Soapy

Tek you really are a born pessimist, they may just be negotiating what % of his future transfer fee he will get.

Re: Soapy

I reckon he'll end up at Newcastle Utd under Cathro tbh.Why would he want to stay at a club that he's starting to outgrow at just 18?

It would seem i'm not alone in this train of thought (see player 4,player 10 is also interesting).

Re: Soapy

On Newcastles radar long before they brought Cathro in TEK so this has become a very real possibility.  They're apparently going to spend serious cash this season too!

Sh1tting it about this.

i doubt he will end up at newcastle as under mike ashley the newcastle coaching team have no input on transfers at all its down to the scouts and director of football though possibby mike ashley has changed this now and if he has then possibly cathro would speak to mclaren about souttar but he would be as well staying with us for another two seasons and developing better as a player

Good 2CU you giving your views here mate.  Welcome!

I'm resigned to us losing Soapy, but for his own development and as I've said earlier, I reckon he needs a full season at centre mid to learn his trade.  It's a massive decision for him and his family so early in his career what to do next?  He's not ready for the brutal exposure to the EPL yet though, that is for sure.  But he certainly fits the bill as regards the profile of a player that Newcastle would look to sign, especially now they are/have abandoned the French route.

So how about we sell for Gauld / Robertson money / add ons which will FINALLY make us debt free once everyone has their fill of the financial pie, but with a loan back facility?  How about Cathro convinces the Magpies Board that a tie in with us is (Curtis) Good for the development of Newcastle players not ready for the First Team there?  OK he was in the play offs for Deadco thankfully, but yon Harris Vukic was a player for sure and similar to Cifti.  And we were all impressed by Curtis as I said (BTW did he ever recover from that hip injury?) when he was here.

And as a goalie for us, how about Jak Alnwick who was just released from Newcastle and played a few games for them around Christmas?  My preference would be someone older, like that Lee Camp story, but if Alnwick signed and performed he would be a sellable asset down the line, which fits our business plan.

Re: Soapy

He's still obviously the Kingpin Motherwell, but Cashley no longer on the Magpies Board.

He's about to enter into the final year of his contract so unfortunately I can't see a big fee ala Gauldy/Robertson being offered.

I find it weird though that we have waited this long to try and get him a new deal sorted.
