I think to have good squad depth you want 18-20 players that you'd be happy to drop into any game. Then another pool drawn from the U/20s who will push for a place in the squad and/or be drafted in in the event of an injury crisis.

JMac has identified the need for a goalie and a CH recently. With Durnan he seems to have got his CH. So, let's add an unnamed goalie to the list.

Goalie X
Szromnik
McCallum
Dixon
McGowan
Durnan
Morris
Dillon
Souttar
Spittal
Paton
Rankin
Erskine
Dow
Connolly
Johnson
Telfer
Muirhead
Bilate
Anier
Ciftci

That's 21. Add to that,

Spark
Coote
Fraser
Smith
Murray

And probably a few more U/20s that I'm not familiar with or have slipped my mind.

If we could keep Ciftci I'd be happy to stick with what we have.

If we lose Ciftci I'd bring in Camp and Allan.

would you sell nadir and buy Scott allen and scott McDonald....

Re: signing today

I'd like McDonald at Tannadice Stobes but a proper, experienced, dependable goalie is an absolute must. Think Camp fits the bill. We'd never get him under normal circumstances but hopefully his personal situation might just swing it.

TBH I'd take Camp and one of Allan or McDonald.

Re: signing today

Positive also that Muirhead looked like he was a very good signing. Big impact from him this season me thinks.

Re width it depends on the system. Any time the team have played good stuff under Jackie, it's rarely been with touchline huggers. GMS tended to play on the right and cut in. It was Robertson who patrolled the left.

Once Dicker gets back to his best (and he was getting there towards the end of the season) we'll see him motoring up the flank more and providing extra width.

4231 depends on FBs bombing forward. Like you say, Dickers was definitely getting there (by his own admission on the ZONE ) by the end of the season, and Gowser was doing his bit but I would like to see him get back a bit sharper when it breaks down.

get the full backs forward pinging bahs in with soapy dropping back when they do...hate this one up top pish with a passion....

People are moaning about the squad for next season yet Stobie's put together a great looking team without even putting our best player in...

That team excites me. Outwith that, we'd have a bench of Szromnik, Dillon, Spittal, Connolly, Johnson, Paton, Fraser.

Take a striker out for a midfielder with Soapy dropping back to sweeper and that team easily converts into a 3-5-2 as well.

Maybe he knows something we don't.

Re: signing today

We won't get one but we still need another striker and obviously a goalkeeper. Don't think we're creative enough either. Still lots of work to do.

A waste of human skin.

Appreciate that, hence the wink, but despite your annoyance, you're right.
