Re: first team...

If it were upto me i'd bin 9 of that first team of 25, possibly 10 I think we'd need to keep Rankin or Paton depending on who came in.

I'm assuming that Fojut and Nads will not be there when we start next season and for Young Rado to work, we'll need to be very patient, like Man Utd were with David de Gea. But can we afford to wait? For me we cannot. I'd rather punt him and get an experienced goalie and centre half in.

One thing that strikes me is that WE CANNOT play our 4/2/3/1 formation next season with the squad we appear to have. If it were me, I'd be looking at a 4/4/2 diamond with Soapy at the base. But I'd have huge reservations that Telfer AND Connoly would be too lightweight. Currently I'd go:

McCallum

McGowan Morris Dillon Dixon

Souttar
Telfer Spittal
Connolly

(One of Anier or Bilate or Murray) Muirhead

If that's the team for the first game of the season i'll greet.

We'd be bullied all over the park.

no but surely you've got to keep promoting a handful each year or you'll either have a massive amount of youths or would be releasing people left right and centre

no danger a club like ours could carry 25 experienced players

i think age wise that 25 is spot on....talent wise i have my doubts...would love to hand pick and punt a good 6-8 fae that...but as we keep hearing...we canna and shouldn't....so.....my point being, sense says no one comes in unless someone leaves?

I'm all for promoting the kids BUT they have to learn to walk before they can run so to speak.

Boys like Adeyemo,Moore and Scott Smith were struggling to make an impact at lower league level on loan last season.Bit unrealistic to expect them to be expected to be able replacements this season. They need time as does Coote, and even Spittal,Fraser and telfer need more time before they're able to be relied upon week in week out.

That leaves about 16-17 'experienced' players and out of that you have boys who are never fit like Bilate or just not playing well like Anier.

It will be 'one in one out' though for certain from this point onwards (even after shifting on 10 already).

The fact the playing budget is again decreased sticks in the craw of me and others because the money we've raked in should have put us in a position to very strongly strengthen our squad as Aberdeen and Hearts have.

there's got to be a ladder you go up....youths...loan...first team...if they feel they failed on loan then they get punted...if they're still here i'm guessing they have faith....

see this budget carry on....we sold 2 players in january and bought 4 players!!! what mair can we do???

Aye and since then we've punted 10 lol.

Mon Stobes i ken you don't like being negative an all that but that squad we've got just now (almost certainly minus Fojut,Butcher and Nads come kick off)...you happy with that?

Fans want to see a bit of hope injected back into the club after the absolute carcrash that's for the most part been 2015 so far.

fair enough just think Anier should be cut some slack...yes he's been pish but we canna keep portraiting ourselves as the best fans on the planet if we continually crucify players after half a dozen gash games...he actually played very well and scored when he started down at Killie...anyway

Spittal plays anywhere behind the main striker...not sure why  keep reading people saying he canna hold doon his position...he filled in a right back once i think...apart fae that he plays right or left of the three behind the front man...and he's a teenager....and he gets it in the neck tae..so i stick up for these types....

Maybe your approach is right and I'm wrong, I don't know.

What I do know is I have never said I'm one of the greatest fans in the world. I get pissed off if I'm being undersold on my expectations from United. Expectations that are based on what I know United are comfortably capable of. For me I won't complain if the team are putting in 100% effort and the management are trying to put things right.

Very little of either have been apparent from large parts of the team since the end of January.

Pretty sure Spittal has played RB a few times -at least twice at Tannadice and through at Easter Road in the cup.

Re: first team...

For sure TEK.  That's why I said what I said. We DEFINITELY need a top notch goalie and centre half. That would replace McCallum and Dillon.

From your list, I'd have Scott McDonald, and Ali Crawford in a heartbeat and they would replace Connolly and the partner position for Muirhead.

I would then be OK with facing up to the season.

Would like Ainsworth at Tannadice.

We really lack pace...BADLY.Looks like he has an eye for goal tae.

Think Scott McDonald could also do us a turn for a year or two yeah.

He's signed for an English team, I think.  For some reason I'm thinking Fleetwood.

never said i was happy with it mate...hence the debate i've started.....

but....there's a hale lot of people who support our club that seem to be as interested in the way it run financially as it is on the park..they all have said numberous times that we're running at a loss and cuts must be made....well the clubs got the debt right doon, according to them we've nae sellable assets anymore...so we canna keep buying players???
we've 25 first team players...young or auld..they've got to be considered first team squad....do we keep adding to that or no....

Re: first team...

It will be one in one out. There's no doubt about that.

That's how folk have been unhappy for months.Over and above results and everything else there is a sense that we are handling our finances and squad building very poorly.

Look at the mess Hibs got in when they done similar.Still haven't recovered.

Re: first team...

Agree but i think in McGowan,Dixon ,Muirhead and possibly Anier given a chance he has rebuilt well....me thinks next season is all about whether we can replace with better....I'll get pelters for this but its all about selling shifty and whether or not we can strengthen in a couple of areas.....if we sell him and loan out 2 or 3 our season will be defined on who he can bring in....if we keep shifty and sell no one i canna see us strengthen at all..

Re: first team...

As I've said previously on mad and possibly here the manager spent his budget for signings in january. These players he signed were done so so they were ready for season start. If anyone else comes in then players that are under contract need to be moved on.

Re: first team...

Assuming Rado, Butcher and Fojut are offski, I'd punt the other Polish keeper, Adayemo, Anier, one of Paton/Rankin and I would've punted Dillon (although his and Rankin's derby performances have made me think twice).  I would also punt Bilate if he's still not fit enough to play 90 minute games by the end of August.  I also still think that Spittal would benefit from going out on loan until January.  Euan Spark and Scott Smith would also benefit from loans.

I would also sell Ciftci now.
