arab archive just posted this....25 players still under contract next season....now me like anyone loves the pre season to see new players...but...BUT....people have pointed out we're running at a loss bar transfers...should we put up with what we've got or push for more....25 pop pickers....lot of players
a lot of the same people (rightly) angry at this yearly deficit....but also unhappy at a lack of new signings...
Offline
Problem is some of the 25 aren't good enough, but there's not really anyway the numbers should go up. Hard job but some have to go to make way for better or next year will be a struggle for top 6.
Offline
Gotta get rid of the under achievers to release funds for new players, this unfortunately means 'golden handshakes' with players
What frustrates me is that on paper this looks a good sqaud so why exactly didnt it work after January ? The management ? Lack of confidence in the team ? or just not good enough ?
Offline
Sad fact is, the imminent departees (Nads and Jarok) are two of our best players.
Still, that's fitba' nowadays, and in JMac I trust, and it should increase his budget for the next set of gems.
Offline
agree about the two most likely to go are two of our best players.....personally i'd like to see a few move on, but 'golden handshakes' are oot.....rightly so...so its either sell, hope they request a move and fuck their contract off or loan oot...canna see us adding to 25 first teamers

From that list above I'd want to bin 10 players minimum.
I know that some are on long contracts etc, but amuse me by reading my list.
Out:
Anier
Bilate
Dillon
Dow
Erskine
Fojut
Morris
Paton
Rankin
Szromnik
Spittal
I don't know enough to comment on the following players to justify keeping or punting:
Adeyemo
Coote
Fraser
Johnstone
McCallum
Smith
Spark
That leaves the following players as being deemed good enough for United, as far as I'm concerned:
Ciftci (who is leaving by the looks of it)
Connolly (just)
Dixon
McGowan
Muirhead
Souttar
Telfer
Doesn't make good reading.

Why do you think people like me are so scunnered with our Manager and coaches pocketing six figures+ every cash transfer?
We desperately need a few quality experienced players in.Taking millions in in transfer fees and yet once again the playing budget is cut.

get rid oh Anier after 2 starts...morris and fojut and spittal...and coote and spark you dinna ken nothing about?
you need to get along to tannadice mate and gee that wrestling up

2 things TEK...there's absolutely not a chance in hell the manager AND coaches are pocketing SIX figure sums EVERY transfer..not a chance
and to cut the youth coming through by replacing it with experienced players would not just cut the clubs throat we'd be sitting in the electric chair away to get popped

Between them they are mate.
On say a three million transfer there's six figures plus going to our Management team. That's money that could/should be used to keep us at a certain ambitious standard.

i'm no privvy to peoples contracts, wage slips or p60's so i'll no comment
i'd love to clear a few of the above oot...but surely we canna unless they move on themselves or go on loan...i'd wager there's 25 for a reason...most top clubs will work with 25....mix of youth and experiance there...hopefully some bad go replaced with better...

I'm no privvy to his contract either mate but it's not hard to work out roughly what their slice of the pie is going by the last set of accounts.
The 25 is a bit misleading too.A few of those guys are kids with no or very very little first team experience.

I'd just be happy with Paton being punted tbh

no but surely you've got to keep promoting a handful each year or you'll either have a massive amount of youths or would be releasing people left right and centre
no danger a club like ours could carry 25 experienced players
i think age wise that 25 is spot on....talent wise i have my doubts...would love to hand pick and punt a good 6-8 fae that...but as we keep hearing...we canna and shouldn't....so.....my point being, sense says no one comes in unless someone leaves?

In many cases there I think you're being a bit Savage!

Anier has been so far off the pace since he arrived and has shown me nothing to make me think he's a player.
Fojut is on the list because he's pretty much confirmed he's away.
Spittal is suffering from Stuart Duff-itis in that he's not been able to cement a place as his own and playing in so many different positions seems to have hampered his development.
Morris is ok, but nothing else. He needs a leader beside him to keep him right, we don't have that and don't appear to be looking to bring a leader in based on the rumours flying about.
I never said get rid of Coote and Spark or any others in that section of my post. What I meant was I've not seen enough of the middle section of players to confidently be able to say keep or punt. I should have worded that better.
Got my season ticket for the 14th time (or so), just not getting to as many away games as I used to.

I did say I know some have just signed new contracts, etc. the above was just my opinion on the squad list posted above. If I could clear the deadwood out, the first lot of players would be out of my team, in an ideal world.

Opinions mate.
Out of interest, if you were able to clear players out of that squad, who would you ditch, who do you not know enough about and who do you think isn't up to United standards?

fair enough just think Anier should be cut some slack...yes he's been pish but we canna keep portraiting ourselves as the best fans on the planet if we continually crucify players after half a dozen gash games...he actually played very well and scored when he started down at Killie...anyway
Spittal plays anywhere behind the main striker...not sure why keep reading people saying he canna hold doon his position...he filled in a right back once i think...apart fae that he plays right or left of the three behind the front man...and he's a teenager....and he gets it in the neck tae..so i stick up for these types....

I'm all for promoting the kids BUT they have to learn to walk before they can run so to speak.
Boys like Adeyemo,Moore and Scott Smith were struggling to make an impact at lower league level on loan last season.Bit unrealistic to expect them to be expected to be able replacements this season. They need time as does Coote, and even Spittal,Fraser and telfer need more time before they're able to be relied upon week in week out.
That leaves about 16-17 'experienced' players and out of that you have boys who are never fit like Bilate or just not playing well like Anier.
It will be 'one in one out' though for certain from this point onwards (even after shifting on 10 already).
The fact the playing budget is again decreased sticks in the craw of me and others because the money we've raked in should have put us in a position to very strongly strengthen our squad as Aberdeen and Hearts have.

if all were out of contract i'd let go Dillon, Erskine, paton one of the keepers and say thanks to Rankin but ciao..time for a change
and replace with o'donnell fae partick, scott allan and three magical scandanavians that we've never heard of....

there's got to be a ladder you go up....youths...loan...first team...if they feel they failed on loan then they get punted...if they're still here i'm guessing they have faith....
see this budget carry on....we sold 2 players in january and bought 4 players!!! what mair can we do???

As much as i rate Scott Allan (fantastic player) i don't want to see us fork out anymore money on transfer fees this Summer (or anytime soon tbh).
454k alone last season.
Probably gonna have to pay 50k at least for this lad Durnan.
There are loads of good players out there who are available for NOTHING.
Scott McDonald
Lionel Ainsworth
David Templeton
John Sutton
Andrew Driver
Iain Vigurs
Elexei Eremenko
Kallum Higginbotham
John McGinn
Ali Crawford
Edward Ofere
That's just a few SPFL players off the top of my head.

I'm assuming that Fojut and Nads will not be there when we start next season and for Young Rado to work, we'll need to be very patient, like Man Utd were with David de Gea. But can we afford to wait? For me we cannot. I'd rather punt him and get an experienced goalie and centre half in.
One thing that strikes me is that WE CANNOT play our 4/2/3/1 formation next season with the squad we appear to have. If it were me, I'd be looking at a 4/4/2 diamond with Soapy at the base. But I'd have huge reservations that Telfer AND Connoly would be too lightweight. Currently I'd go:
McCallum
McGowan Morris Dillon Dixon
Souttar
Telfer Spittal
Connolly
(One of Anier or Bilate or Murray) Muirhead
