Just a general question: What do folk think of drums at football matches? Why do you / don't you like them?

Not for me!
The constant banging does my heed in although maybe me heading towards the 40 mark is a sign i should be looking to head to the Dode Fox with my blanket

It's a no for me. Whilst on the odd occasion they can be effective and help atmosphere, they are largely annoying when it's constant. Maybe if used sparingly.

Cannot stand them. In a big crowd/full house it can work quite well but even then it gets annoying pretty quickly. It looks and sounds cringeworthy when there are two men and a dog at the game which is what most Scottish games are like.

Drums only if its Cup Final day and a proper pipes n drums thing before match or at half time!

You'd tell me to go away or beat the drum?

Despite my wrestling background, I'm a peaceful man at heart. I'd probably tell you politely to go away in the first instance and if you didn't you'd be on the wrong end of a BIG elbow off the top turnbucle!

I think I wouldn't mind it being used occasionally at certain games, even the less attended games to try get a bit of something resembling an atmosphere going, but as long as it just wasn't hit with no thought like others are saying. The guys at Motherwell don't use it that well, so not the best example.
I was at the Stranrear game and its use there was forgetable for me. Maybe have to go and look at its use at teams on the continent where it seems to be more effective and better used.

Gonna sound like a daft question but why do you guys not like them? Not even if they were played by somebody who could play and also not continuously banged the whole game.

i'd guess most on here are aulder, schooled fae games back in the day when the atmosphere at football took care of itself...the games became americanised...i honestly couldna think of anyting mair annoying than somecunt next to me with a drum...must be an age thing...an era thing...i'm 44...bet 99% of lads over 40 would tell a drummer to do one

I does come under the americanisation banner for most I think. An atmosphere should be created naturally, but I suppose with lack of standing, no drink.....etc it has curtailed this. The way it is with things not moving anywhere fast and with younger generations not having previous experiance of how it used to be I guess doing things like this is all they have.

I don't like them because I'm a moaning old cunt and they are annoying. Could put up with them at semis or finals I suppose but I sometimes drink a lot of red wine on a Friday night and the thought of some boy banging a drum for 2 hours with a sore head doesn't bare thinking about

I'm not as old as the vulture though. The under 40s would hate it as well

They're very good if used when a chant has already started. When incessantly banged fuck out of its annoying as fuck.

If used well a drum can benefit the atmosphere.
That for me is less annoying than silence.
Voovooselas are counter productive and just drown out the ability to create a chant.
A megaphone conducted atmosphere operated well and backed up with a drummer does wonders in some of the best jumping stadiums.
Offline
That's exactly it, it will not be banged non stop giving people a sore heed.

Hate this 'green brigade' style constant chanting that folk seem to want now. As has been said above an atmosphere should be created naturally. What happens on the pitch sparks an atmosphere, a bad tackle or a shit ref decision will create more atmosphere than a drum.
