I'm more shocked that you buy The Sun mate

It's a decent read tbh but I think a sizeable section of support has been turned against Thompson that it doesn't matter what he says now.
The dye is cast. Only thing that will win some fans over is a trophy I reckon

LOL Post 2. I dinna buy newspapers now, but saw that was in the middle of the sport section, so out of intrigue, Rupert got my £1.
It don't look like ST is selling to anyone, so hopefully everyone can just unite.
Looking forward to a Twitter fest this afternoon of bear baiting are we?

Cannae wait. There must be some Zombies who haven't blocked me still out there

If your looking in ST you have my 100% backing. If it was my decision I would have sold Armstrong as well. Keep up the good work.

This interview doesn't say anything that we haven't heard before so don't really see the point in Thompson sitting for it.
The way I read it...
He stands by the decisions they made and has no regrets. Jackie is the shizzle and people who criticise his contract are unfair.
I think he fails to mention several key issues - such as jackie has the 3rd biggest budget and has spent the second highest amount on players as well as being on a high wage - yet the team is not performing to that level.
We have brought in 2 fullbacks yet we still can't defend - we've conceded 22 more goals than St Johnstone, the team just above us.
Surely whether our previous managers have been on a a stupid wedge is imaterial to jackies contract?
Further to that, I can see the sense in giving jackie a bonus in his contract - HOWEVER, he should not profit from players who he hasn't developed! Gms and Armstrong were fully fledged first team ers under houston. ...
Would also be interesting to see sales of new tops and season tickets are compared to last 5 seasons....

Everything you say here is fair IMO
I'm just sick of the bickering though. Time to move on. You've articulated the issues nicely though

i'm absolutely choking for us to sign webster..really am
one thing we're all unhappy about is the supposed lack of training, the players looking fucked and the fact we canna defend...
one thing i'd wager webster would do is address these problems.

Given that he's played with both Dixon and McGowan I think he'd be a good signing.
A natural leader

Without wanting to start a barmy, as Tangy says, it doesna really say anythin that we dont already know.
The last paragraphs in the section about Arsestrong are interesting tho. The bit where he says, if we'd kept him, we might have won something or we might not. Which reads to me that he thought we were gonna win phuck-all, so he just sold him. In the end we did win phuck-all, and got sweeties for him from the Bhoys in the striped pyjamas.

Yes, i'm sick fed up of bickering and the general downer that the support is on too....
Although im sure the paper made the headline 'give us a break', maybe ST/Jackie needs to give US a break. Give us something to get excited about.......
Roll on some good news and jackie/st taking on board some of the real issues and stop trying to BS the support with flannel

just wondering if ST and JMAC sat doon and discussed, when the bid went in, what kind oh chance would we have with them in the team, would we beat celtic in the final....we'd hae a better chance for sure, but the flip side is, they all played and arse fainted against st johnstone......beating celtic in glasgow gets that little bit more difficult

Agree and agree.
Same arguments with the same counter arguments, doesn't look like anybody is gonna change any minds soon, so let's just try and move on.

A waste of time even reading that.Says absolutely nothing new,or that we never knew.
Same old retoric.
My biggest problem with Thompson is he doesn't for 1 minute understand why the fans are unhappy or that they even have a right to be.just as usual comes across as being completely arrogant and vindicated in all his actions.

question on the timing of the signings.....do you think he'd have sold the two to celtic had we had inverness or say motherwell in the final 6 weeks later....
Offline
Thompson sounds like a boy who's been missing most of the season and has hardly seen us play. Which is exactly what he is. He's not got a clue what the fans were unhappy about.
He (and Jackie) are using the contract thing and the sales of Will and Grace as a convenient smokescreen for the real things that fans are unhappy about; the teams complete lack of character when they lose a goal, chronic fitness levels and even more chronic defending, despite the manager buying a completely new set of defenders over the course of the season.

Been watching footage of Man United and Arsenal this week because i like football, Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wegner were both getting hounded by fans that knew better when the going was tough but both clubs stood by their man and reaped silver, my point is give everyone a chance like you would like to be given yourself

Hi St obswell,
I kinda agree with you..we do need to get back to following the team, however, my opinion is that we need to see something from the club before you can look for long term backing...
Last season, our defending was gash - this season our defending was gash. St and jmac are keen to tell us there's been progress and where the statements are factual, they don't always consider all aspects
I'd love to see united making a couple of good signings - not boys for the future - boys for the right now. The likes of Andy Webster would be a good start....though I've no idea if his legs are still with him?
Give the fans something to cheer and they will get back behind them - bad news followed by silence and then a couple of ill - advised statements is not going to do that.

Jim McLean too was getting severe grief from United fans at some points in the 'seventies.

100% yes
was thinking they got sacrificed due to the reckoning we'd probably lose the final anyway...win it they'd maybe hold their value..or even go up in value?....a cup final win had the clubs hovering over the likes of goodie and conway etc...

Fed up with club politics, don't care what any of them have to say anymore. As the saying goes action speaks louder than words, the actions of ST and JM over the summer will dictate our clubs future not any amount of interviews/statements.
