Re: dillon

Surprised he's got a 2 year deal to be honest.

Re: dillon

Nobody is going to argue that he is the most talented player ever to pull on a United shirt, however 2 plus points here. 1. he can cover a number of positions and that is useful at a club that gets constant defensive injuries, Malpas went about 3 years without missing a game modern players made of plastic.
2. In a team full of inexperienced youngsters experience is vital, Dillon may well now creep into our top ten appearances.

Re: dillon

It's an absolutely baffling decision.

Sean Dillon isn't a leader on the park. He isn't a first pick in what must be one of the worst performing United defences in years and he isn't particularly good either.

Whether he's versatile or not, how are we going to improve the defence if we don't bring in anyone new?

Re: dillon

Good decision. Not going to be a regular pick, but we do need cover and he can cover many positions if need be, plus I feel he does deserve it. He is a model pro and his influence off the park to younger players in this aspect is worth a lot. Think that goes unoticed by quite a few.

Re: dillon

Canna disagree with SGMilne tbh....i want him to get a testimonial, not be cause of his ability but because of his loyalty....if this last season had been his first season, make no bones about it he would have got the treatment...he's been fucking stinking

But....is the shocking defending down to the playing staff or coaching staff?....would a manager that's shit hot at setting a team up to defend, get our lot defending better?

Re: dillon

Only Morris and to a degree McGowan get pass marks, to pick out Dillion alone is a bit unfair. Find myself ever increasingly questioning the coaching more than the playing staff tbh, especially of an ex-international defender.

Re: dillon

Astounded at this, to be totally honest: we must have money to burn.

Nonetheless, he'll get my support on the park.

Re: dillon

Whether or not i think he deserves a new contract i would never criticise Dillon as i think the guy's a diamond and a future 'Hall of Famer'.

I am very surprised it is 2 years though, thought it might only have been a 1 year rolling contract tbh.

Bit worried if we sign no other defenders this Summer though i must say,as i don't think any of them are particulary great players.

Re: dillon

I like Dillon. Good honest pro. When he gets his testimonial I'll go along and give him a clap.

He shouldn't be getting a new contract though.

He really really shouldn't

Re: dillon

The more I think about this the more bemused I am about this decision.

Re: dillon

Dillon gets far more stick than he deserves. He has his howlers but has more decent games than not. Nobody in our defence has had a good season but he's always the one to be singled out.

This "he isn't a leader" thing that keeps getting spouted, do u really think all "leaders" have to run about screaming at everybody like Roy Keane?  There are different ways of leading.

Delighted he'll now be entitled to a testimonial and glad he's got this deal to keep helping and encouraging the young boys through, even if he won't play every week.

Re: dillon

He might not be earning as much as we think, maybe like Barry Robson getting a new deal up at Aberdeen he's just happy to be here and behind the scene is where he gives good value for what we pay as much as his efforts on the pitch. At a time where the Club appears to be falling apart at the seams it may prove to be a very clever move when it all settles down again. Good luck,

Re: dillon

Struggling to believe we have gave him a 2 year deal tbh. Love the guy but I doubt any other team in the League would give him a contract and we give him another 2 years. Certainly filling our Squad with mediocrity and for a couple of years. IMO

Re: dillon

There was at least 1 premier team interested, not sure if they had approached him yet, but definitely interested.

Nothing to add, really.

Re: dillon

I'll just add, belatedly, he played very well as a starter on Sunday.

Re: dillon

Dillon is a top lad - 1 of the best. A great example of how to live life to the youngsters.

As a defender, I think he's ok....but would say with a nasty streak, be'd improve his performances...

Really hope he gets his testemonial. I for one will gladly pass over cash for him.
