That is not an attacking team. That is literally the exact same as against St Johnstone. That formation is howfing.

Hopefully they rest a couple of players, no confident though.

No real enthusiasm for the game presently.
Even getting into Europe, which usually I'd be excited about, has lost almost all appeal. But I'm unsure that's because I'd fear a bit of a surprise humping from an unknown Latvian side, or just because of the general malaise at the club presently. Mixture of both, probably.

4 attacking players?Not attacking.
Ok then.
Notice how you never put a team up.Just content to rubbish other peoples posts constantly.
Becoming a bit boring like.

I hear ya,Pat.
Think i'm trying to convince myself 4th and getting into Europe is still something tangible to take from the season.
But let's be honest unless you're lucky enough to be able to afford a wee euro excursion away on the bevvy,Europa elimination in August (or earlier) is very little to get excited about.
Completely non-plussed about us getting into Europe, and that's a first.
Just hope we can win the 2 remaining games for the fans more than anything else.

Didn't have time. Was finishing my post on my phone walking into work. I do write down teams.
Cierzniak; Dillon, Fojut, Morris, Dixon; Souttar, Rankin; Spittal, Telfer; Ciftci; Muirhead
I'm not sure why he completely changed the team from the Aberdeen game. You can't really look at a teams performance in a game played on a river. Plus, way to show confidence in your players. Ciftci/Muirhead have a decent wavelength of each other already. Telfer gives Souttar someone with a first touch and the ability to pass to and from each other. Rankin will run about. Spittal, unlike Erskine, will provide width allowing Ciftci to come inside of need be.
Should be another cracking away trip. 9am train, back in Dundee after 11pm. Hopefully the performance is spirited, if nothing else to say a thank you to the few hundred folk going up. Some going there a second time in 10 days.

Our Europe game if qualify, will be played at the start of July. A month without football and we'll be back in pre season already.
I've convinced myself that we'll get Europe. Tears if we don't. :'(
Edit: Smith is not an attacking player, by the way. The team you posted is basically 433 with two folk pretending to be on the wing. This was our problem on Saturday. We had at least four players in the middle (plus St j players) meaning Souttar had no room to play with the ball.

@Waffelz
See when you actually can be bothered to talk football maturely (and not just rubbish everything you read) i actually find myself agreeing with a lot of your thoughts.
My team could be seen as a 433.It could also be construed as a 451 though.
Sometimes i think we all get a bit caught up in formations (myself included). We win and lose as a team and i would expect Erskine+Ciftci to get forward as much as possible, but also, defend and track back, thus making it a 433 AND a 451.Actually i expect us to defend from the front,so that starts with Muirhead. This is a two way street though and we need Dillon and Dixon to get forward and support when they can.Need more from set-pieces from the big men in the team like Morris and Fojut.
Haven't seen much at all of Scott Smith tbh.But neither Telfer or Butcher has recreated their form of earlier in the season,so why not give the guy a chance? He's apparently been playing well for the Developement side.
Would also disagree that he's not attacking.Watching the pre-season 7 minute games on Arabzone (admittedly maybe not the best gauge of his abilities) was surprised at just how many goals he scored in those games (and often from the position of ghosting into the box).Been quite surprised he hasn't made the breakthrough quicker. He also looked not bad on Saturday and had a few nice touches and decent movement in and around the St.Johnstone box.

Thanks, Tek, my sweet dear.
I don't think we're going to agree on the point, tbh. The only time I'd be happy for Erskine to start is centrally and not wasting a position on the wing.
The formation I'd want to play is basically a 442 (oh, look - old school). But we do not have two wingers, really. I'd be happy enough with Connolly/Spittal but you need an upgrade there for next season and McNamara wouldn't play this now anyway. Souttar is good enough to just need one partner for the whole centre of the park instead of someone playing a little further forward. Folk underestimate the ground he covers.
This would then allow Ciftci to do whatever he wants whilst linking with Muirhead. Keeps us balanced, too, which may help with defending.

Wouldn't be against Erskine playing in the middle of the three tbh.Or even Nads for that matter.
One of the big problems in the side as you pointed out is we have no natural wingers.

is erskine out of contract at the end of the season or did he get three years?

Thats what I'd play as well. I'd go back to the 4-2-3-1 with Connolly on the right and Nads on the left and Telfer in behind Muirhead. Erskine wasn't great on Saturday again. He never seems to get the ball in early.

After St J's draw last night we've got it all to do. Morris out, Shifty doubtful.
Rado
Dillon
Souttar
Fojut
Dixon
Butcher
Rankin
Telfer
Connolly/Spittal
Erskine
Muirhead
We could play Spittal or Spark at rb and move Dillon into ch in order to keep Souttar in midfield though.
