On This Day 1996 - Partick Thistle 1-1 Dundee United: Over 10,000 fans crammed into Firhill for the first leg of the 1995/96 promotion play-off - around half of which were Arabs. Thistle took the lead after 20 minutes through Andy Lyons but United scored a late equaliser: Christian Dailly nodding home in the closing minutes to spark wild celebrations amongst the large contingent of travelling supporters. If you thought those celebrations were mental, wait til you see the second leg....

Was also at both, and as you Bowers i can't remember much about the Partick game apart from Dailly scoring the goal. Fermers game was a mental end to a shockingly bad game in the most part!

I'm sure United hit the bar after the late Dailly equaliser, but time might be playing tricks.

Was at both games also.
The atmosphere at Firhill was electric that day.Auld fashioned terracing jam packed, big flags,colour,singing,uproar,ecstacy...proper cup match.I thought it was Rod McDonald who scored for them (who was a very decent forward IMO) just shows you how the memory can distort.Think Pat's right btw, pretty sure we nearly won it right at the death but can't remember who missed the chance.
The St.Johnstone match was just something else.Never been put through the wringer like that during a Utd game since. We have Paul Hartley to thank as much as anyone for the comeback that day.Him stupidly getting sent off for them at 2-0 when they were on top was the glimmer of hope we needed to get back into the match.

I never made it to either playoff game. I missed the first leg because I was at Tayport v Camelon Scottish Junior Cup final at Fir Park (2-0 win for Tayport, amazing) and missed the 2nd leg because I had my Higher Physics exam the next day and was supposed to be studying but ended up watching the game on tv and failed the exam.
Went to Perth though. That was something else especially the 3rd goal. Unbelievable. Ooooohhhh Weeee Maannn!
