If you were head of FIFA for one day, what rule would you change or introduce?
In the 25 years I've been watching football, the only rule changes I can think of are the passback rule, six second goalkeeper ball in hands rule (I think we are the only team to have ever lost a goal from that!), allowing keepers to move along their line before a penalty, and making a foul that stops a clear goal scoring chance a red card as well as a free-kick or penalty.
Not much innovation, maybe because it's the world's most popular sport, maybe because they are too busy counting their money.
I read a recent suggestion by Louis Van Gaal, that he would replace throw in's with kick ins, as this would change the whole defensive side of the game as players wouldn't put the ball out so often to kill the other teams momentum and give their team mates time for a breather and to get back in position, if there was a much bigger threat from the set piece.
Jim McLean once said he would make it 10 a side, increased fitness of players and tactical analysis has made the the game too predictable and defensive.
Some non-football people overseas say we should scrap offside, i think this would just be mental and too much of a change.

Why does the game have to stop for the trainer to come on? Change the laws so that the game goes on around the 'injured' player as in Rugby league. The player is then out of the game till the ball goes out of play or the ref blows for something else.

In Scotland, referees should be able to send Scott Brown off, same as the other players.

The away goals rule has had its day IMHO. The stupid head-to-head method of working out who gets out of group stages in major tournaments is needlessly complicated as well. Get back to goal difference or better still goals scored. The daft thing where the ref cannot blow for offside until the offside player makes a move for the ball should go as well. Oh and penalties should be given for actually committing a foul in the box NOT for simply making 'contact' with a player (ie touching someone) thus giving them the right to fall over and get a penalty. When did a contact sport ban contact inside the box? Divers charter.

TV technology should be used like it is in other sports (during the game) to eliminate corruption in our Country and every other.

Good shout and would also eliminate feigned injuries.

Great shout, Pat, but he's a protected species and has the whistle so it isn't going to happen.

A team can choose one game a season that if they win they get 6 points instead of 3.
They have to give the FA a fortnights notice of the game they wish to attempt to win their 6 points in.
Can you imagine the tension and animosity in those games?
'They cunts have chosen US to win their 6 points eh?...let's show the bastards'

I'd adjust the offside rule, must be day light between the attacking player an the last man. Or Ban agents.

Build a new national stadium in Edinburgh to host Scotland matches and cup finals, with easy train, tram and road access in and out with plenty of parking spaces and traffic control.
And no dedicated Celtic or Rangers end either! Fuck em.
Edit to say I know it's not a rule, but it's on my wish list.

A lot of good ideas here, I agree with St Obswell about video technology, and also lifesanocean about the away goals rule.
The national stadium thing is comically unfair, sadly that is a reflection of scottish football in general

Maybe the Nats will one day propose to build a National Stadium in Stirling.
Back to rule change i would like to see a 3rd card available to our referees and video officials to show to players for a professional foul or any other for that matter that's not worthy of a Red where for example it seems too harsh to send them off and a 15 minute period in the sin bin would be punishment enough. This could also rule out prospective punishment regarding suspension from very important games whereby the current system in place is currently getting used and abused by a certain Club and a certain compliance officer.
All said that compliance officer would probably find a new job along with another from the other half of Glasgow (if they return anytime soon) in front of the monitor's if video technology was introduced into the game.

The transfer windows should not be open to buying league competitors' opposing players during the season.

I hate the offside rule!

Allow the tackle from behind!
This idea to protect players from a physical game has manifested into a farce. Now the game is ridiculous with diving, play acting and bookings for FUCKING INTENT FOR FUCK SAKE!!!

The offside rule IMO is the one with most wrong decisions.
It was bad before, but now no-one knows what is and what is not offside and this thing where the linesman is instructed to not flag until the player touches the ball gets on my tits!
And if you're giving me more wishes, summer futba and video technology. It's utter nonsense to say that games would be broken up and it would take ages.

Same here, also put a stop to this shaking hands before the game starts bollocks they don't even look to see whos hand their shaking FFS
Also kicking the ba oot when anybody pretends to be hurt, if we are on the attack fuck them 9 times oot o' 10 the cunts are at it anyhow

Totally agree with this, I reckon the captains should have a square go instead of shaking hands and swapping pennants before the game starts with the first one to get knocked out the centre circle suffer the added humiliation of returning to his team mates one goal down.

This compliance officer pish.
Not strictly a rule i know but getting 'offered' a ban just rubs it the wrong way.

Agree with the hand shaking pish before a game, much preferred it when the teams just came running out the tunnel at the start of a game and got on with the game.
