Probably mine too.
But i changed the subject title cos i had a feeling everyone would either go for them or modern day Spain/Barca.
Best you've seen in the flesh Sir ?

I missed the great Utd side of the early 80's and only started supporting the club around 86/87 so best i've saw in the flesh is probably the Blackburn team that won the EPL in 1995.
I was on holiday at my Dad's caravan in Ayrshire and as Blackburn were playing Kilmarnock in a friendly just down the road we decided to go and watch it.
It was Rovers first game since they won the title and they took a big support up the road with them.
They won 5-0 without even really leaving 1st gear.Their team just oozed class fae Tim Flowers in goals tae guys at the back like Big Hendry,Henning Berg and Graeme le Saux.Midfield had tough guys who could also play like Tim Sherwood,David Batty and Mike Newell. And upfront they had the 'SAS' Shearer and Sutton, with oor own Kevin Gallagher a regular super sub.
A really classy team who were formidable in every department and honestly looked streets ahead of any team i'de saw in Scottish terms at that time.

Probably the Liverpool side of the mid 80s. Went to see them against Dundee in a testimonial. Dalglish was manager.

tough ain...although i like man city i've never been one to go and see other teams, i've never been to a match thats no involved Utd bar 2 scotland games
so the best oot oh that would either have to be celtic with larsson, sutton and hartson or the huns with gazza and laudrop
were they better or worse than Roma, barca etc?....
leftfield one here but the hearts team that absolutely mullered us at tannadice under george burley, with scacel etc was up there with anything...but tbf we were fucking howling then...if only romanov never took a brainstorm half way through that season and punted burley they might well have won the league imho

Obviously didnt see the great Milan, Dutch or Brazillian side.
For me I'd have to say the 08 Barca team at Tanny, Xavi and Iniesta were on their way to becoming two of the greatest midfielders ever, Messi well that speaks for Itself and Etoo and Henry, unreal.
Or the Spanish national team at Hampden when they beat us 3-2. Greatest ever national team, was an honour to say I've seen them.

I think the Hearts team in '86 was better Stobes.
People forget Utd could still have won the title with just 2 or 3 weeks of the season to go.
They came to Tannadice and gubbed us 3-0 to all but write us aff.Naebody but naebody came to Tannadice in those days and won 3-0,particulary in such a big game.

true mate, they were a decent team then but i still think we were better that season, they had a great 6 months then done nothing after it...dogged and old school with the likes of kidd, mcdonald and jardine but they were nae narey, heg and gough

For the aulder Arabs (well aulder than me a wee bit).
Just how good were Fergie's Aberdeen ?
Stronger overall ? or on a par with Us ?or just slightly more streetwise ?
They won more titles but we came closer to the 'big one' and (i think) had the edge over them domestically fae 80-85/6.

My auld boy is an Aberdeen fan born and bred but always maintained Utd were the better team to watch and suited the contintal style of Fitba to a tee.
Hence the reason he took me to watch them,he enjoyed watching them himself.

But my question was, were they better than Utd ?
My auld man's a Don and think's Utd were the side of the 80's.

Alex Ferguson and his drive to win things and not shite it in Glasgow was a massive factor IMO

There's the difference for me.

different team fae utd fergie's Aberdeen...imho we were a better footballing side...we had dogs,'water carriers' in the middle, neil lennon types in phillip, fleming, holty, kirky and latterly macinally...sit in and soak it up then boom...milne ,bannon and luggy would break
thats why we had the success againt bigger teams and european teams..but struggled at times v wee teams if we couldna break them down
fergies team had his stamp all over it in the midfield...cooper,simmie,strachan...with rougvie etc behind.... they'd roll over wee'r teams..thats why, imo they won more...took no prisoners

utd had the beating of celtic back then tae P...we never won the league in 79/80 and 85/86 cause we couldna roll over the likes of hearts, st mirren, hibs etc when it counted no forgetting st mirren or motherwell at hampden

Eh hear ya Stobbie. 79/10 - we only won 1/8 against the OF. - 3/8 in 85/86.
And we didna in Cup Finals - that's when it mattered.
