Our defence needs overhauled

Seriously, as a unit and as individuals (Morris and possibly McGowan exempt) they are dire.

For every bashing Dillon, Dixon, Rado, Souttar, and McGowan has had, Fojut dodges any criticism. Why is that? He's been part of this f uckin disaster mare than anybody!

We need to start fae scratch. Easier said than done but it's now a priority.

Pussy seek leaking goals. We look shaky at every set piece ffs.

Re: Our defence needs overhauled

Last clean sheet in the league was in October against St Mirren at home, tells it's own story!!!!
oh and you can add Rado to the mix as he's an issue too

Re: Our defence needs overhauled

At the start of the season I really didn't think Morris would become the key. We are a different team when he plays. Fojut has been giving me heart attacks since the Accies game right after Christmas. His positional awareness is his biggest flaw I feel.

I think Dixon will come good. Came into a bit of a shit storm and obviously was a lot less fit than we realised. Along with McGowan, Morris I think we will be ok next season if truth be told. While also hoping Souttar gets his chance again and steps up to the plate.

Yeah, a confident keeper could also be key to this. As much as Rado has his strong points, in this league we need a commanding strong keeper who can deal with cross balls.

Re: Our defence needs overhauled

Take a defence of McGowan, Fojut, Souttar and Dixon and drill them and organise them on the training pitch and I believe with a solid keeper behind them they could be a more than decent defence.

For example, if Levein had those players, I bet they wouldn't be losing the soft goals they are now.

Re: Our defence needs overhauled

Well McGowan and Dixon only started really playing in Febuary and have also missed games. Then Morris has laterly been out quite a bit.

Re: Our defence needs overhauled

So far in Jackie's time we've had the following defenders:

Watson
McLean
Dillon
Douglas
Wilson
Souttar
Gunning
Robertson
McGowan
Morris
Fojut
Dixon

Are they all shite?  I don't think so by a long shot.  Some are, but not all. Manager is the constant.  If a lot of them went and played for other clubs like St Johnstone or Aberdeen where they actually work on defending and orgainse their back four (and in St Johnstone's case don't have an accident waitng to happen playing in goals) then they would be good players.  Jackie did ditch zonal marking which was a big cause of us shipping goals under Houston, he doesn't seem to work on our man-to-man marking much though so we continue to ship soft goals.

Re: Our defence needs overhauled

As much as the defence was poor last night even Narey would struggle if he was asked to play alongside Dillon and Czerniak. It is the midfield that is letting the team down very little physical presence, passing ability , speed, game awareness or worse of the lot desire. Look at the 3rd goal last night Rankin completely 2nd best in a tackle 2 passes later ball in the net.

Yep.  Thought your comment about the squad having too many one-for-the-future players hit the nail on the head as well bud.

Re: Our defence needs overhauled

I think it's the goalie that's the problem. There's no way you'll ever get a settled, solid defence playing in front of Rado.

The regular brainfarts are bad enough. But you never hear him helping the defence out with shouts or directions. Prime example towards the end last night. Fojut was chasing a through ball back to goal inside the box with someone breathing up his arse. Rado was standing about like he was waiting on the 1B.

Remember that goalie that used to scream in the players faces and bawl and shout constantly? Whatever happened to him?

bang on...Rankin and Erskine give the ball away far to much..then puts pressure on the back 4...Dillon constantly gives away to then Rado behind him breeds no confidence....its like a cancer right through the heart of the team when they play..not forgetting Nadir who gets it, never lets go, then tries to much, loses it, then its back to the hot tattie through the middle

I like Nadir, but he thinks he's a one man army too often. In his defence, he has very little outlets presently. The lad has a football brain in advance of most others at the club.
