Yes or No ????
Given the current situation a big No fae me however that comes fae me thinking we have so much needing worked on with the team that its out of order taking the holiday...however , others I have spoke to think it is needed and will assist.
I suppose the answer will be in the next 3 performances....

I needed a holiday after the Celtic games so fuck knows how the players felt.
90% yes from me but lose the next couple of games and its a massive No far me
Offline
massive few weeks coming up....wins, especially at Dens will have the support looking forward to next season....lose, especially at Dens....well...it could go horrible
Offline
I'd have given them 3-4 days off and that was it. We have previous for coming back after mid-season breaks looking half-asleep and ridiculously underprepared.

I've thought we looked like this all season

It will all come down to the next result. If we beat county 1:0 with a last minute penalty JM will have pulled of a managerial masterstroke, if the aforementioned penalty is missed the training ground horror stories will get another airing.

if results go our way next week we can clinch top six and go to dens looking to blow their chances oot the watter. That's about as good as it will get for this season now,

4th Likely to get Europe Bud...that should be our minimum goal for remainder of season.

Fighting it out for 4th in a league without Hertz, Hibs and Sevco.
Shocker
3rd should have been nailed on

Or Celtic.
I'd have giving them an extended weekend with their families and then get them back in and working on our frailties at the back and working on a new shape as Jackie seems to have ditched his 4 2 3 1 for no apparent reason.
Has anyone else wondered why the 4 2 3 1 was ditched? We played and won using that shape in game without GMS and Armstrong. Seems a strange one for me. It's possible he's lost faith in Erskine and dosen't feel that Connolly/Spittal/Telfer are ready.
We still have plenty alternaties using the old shape.
Dow/Spittal/Muirhead Telfer/Ciftci/Erskine Connolly/Spittal/Erskine
Ciftci/Bilate/Muirhead/Anier
The players we have in the final third are pretty versatile so theres no reason for us to change the shape imo.

I wouldn't have gave them a holiday.
Would have preferred the players to be in working hard on set piece training.
Not just defending them but also offensively. Our final ball and crossing has been terrible recently. And I include Paul Dixon in that.

Eh heard it was at Joe's request so some mad threeds could disappear.
Seriously, I think they need to recharge and regroup but I would've thought the recharge could've been less than 8 days.
But, in Jackie (and the larger sport science/sport psychology team) I have faith.

8 days Is too long, had we of won one of the cup game then yes but It should only be 5 das max. They should be working on their defending.
Offline
Looking from an employer/employee point of view they have to get holidays sometime during the season.
From a football point of view, 8 days seems a long break just now, but I can understand the thinking behind it. It all boils down to what attitude the players come back with. If they come back determined to show what they can do we'll finish third. If they think this is just the start of their summer break then there's trouble ahead.

TBH, from an employer/employee point of view, the close season is their only guaranteed holiday period (rightly or wrongly from an employment law perspective) and they'll be required for work at any time during any part of the season including xmas/new year. The topic is whether the action taken is right or wrong. I believe the people best placed to make that decision, taking everything into account, are the extended management/coaching staff.
As Blawser says, the next three games will illuminate.

For me this comes down to our default scottish belief regarding football. 'Train them often and hard and hard work overcomes all deficiencies' is our preferred default position.
Levein/Neilson's hearts : train three times a day, sometimes never a day off etc - we are happier with good strong work ethic. Proof in the pudding here.
McNamara has a different view point to the stereotypical scottish stance with a more relaxed, technical approach. Treating the players like adults and trusting them to behave etc. Gauld/Souttar mid season holiday etc last year etc
As intimated above by others, the proof is in the pudding. The next three results will determine whether this has been correct course.
Reading the piece about the young scottish guy who the u19s national coach described as a luxury sums up the position.
We have to rid ourselves of many of the stereotypical approaches in scottish football if we want to progress, whether this is one of them I'm not so sure.

You are right mate. I think we are in footballing terms in Scotland at a crossroads between trying hard/playing hard and pressing like fuck to a transition of be more technical and relaxed.
We have to do both.

If we had been playing every Thursday night in the Europa League and travelling here there and everywhere, then i could definitely see the necessity for a week off.
As it is though i think there was much we could have been working on in those 8 days (new formation,defending/attacking set-pieces,watching videos of County's attacking play, even team bonding day or 2).
We will see on Saturday an early indication of whether the holiday was required and if it's worked.
My worry is that it metaphorically looks like we've already 'downed tools' in March and these type of decisions can sub-conciously seep into a players psyche.
